This classic chili is perfect for a weeknight meal because it can be made in minutes.  The only thing to chop is an onion.

How do you make good homemade chili?

  • Heat olive in a large soup pot.
  • Add chopped onion and cook for 5 minutes.
  • Add ground beef and break it apart with a wooden spoon.
  • Cook for 6-7 minutes.

What do you top chili with?

In addition to the chili ingredients listed in this recipe for chili, you may also want to have these things as toppings.

  • shredded cheddar cheese
  • sour cream
  • sliced green onions
  • saltine crackers or oyster crackers
  • diced avocado

What goes well with chili for dinner?

I’ve been playing around with this chili recipe for the past few months, making it many times.  My family didn’t mind the repetition at all because I really do believe that I ended up with the best chili ever!

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 medium yellow onion -diced
  • 1 pound 90% lean ground beef
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 2 tablespoons ground cumin
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper* -optional
  • 1 1/2 cups beef broth
  • 1 (15 oz.) can petite diced tomatoes
  • 1 (16 oz.) can red kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 (8 oz.) can tomato sauce

Instructions

  • Add the olive oil to a large soup pot and place it over medium-high heat for two minutes. Add the onion. Cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Add the ground beef to the pot. Break it apart with a wooden spoon. Cook for 6-7 minutes, until the beef is browned, stirring occasionally.
  • Add the chili powder, cumin, sugar, tomato paste, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and optional cayenne. Stir until well combined.
  • Add the broth, diced tomatoes (with their juice), drained beans, and tomato sauce. Stir well.
  • Bring the liquid to a low boil. Then, reduce the heat (low to medium-low) to gently simmer the chili, uncovered, for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Remove the pot from the heat. Let the chili rest for 5-10 minutes before serving.

Notes

I typically skip the cayenne pepper because I have a young kiddo.  Then, I put out some hot sauce for those adults that want to add some spiciness to their chili.

This Chili Recipe is the Ultimate!!!
A Keeper!!! Recipe was easy to follow.
I made a double recipe and treated a couple Friends and myself.😋
    ThankYou for Sharing!

  2. 5 stars
This is a good recipe for chili. The family loved it and I will use this recipe for the next time we want some chili. Thanks for sharing the recipe and I will not be using chili mix packs no more.

  3. 5 stars
It really is a good chili. I’ve followed several recipes that were all good, but the simplicity and great taste of this one makes it my goto chili recipe.

  4. I think it tastes too sweet. We doubled the batch 20 4 tablespoons of sugar. I don’t think the recipe needs any sugar. Great flavour with out.

  5. 5 stars
Good chili. Very happy. Pot I had was too small because I tripled the recipe. Had to omit broth otherwise I would be making chili on the floor, still came out killer

  6. 5 stars
This recipe is my first time making chili the recipe was quick and easy to follow. I used chicken broth instead of beef because it was what I had. I thought the cayenne was a bit too spicy so then I added more sugar which made it too sweet so then I sprinkled in a bit more salt and it all balanced out lol rookie mistakes. Served with sour cream, cheddar cheese, crackers or tortillas and crunchy fried jalapeño peppers. Everyone loved it! I will def make again albeit only add one tablespoon of sugar next time and 1/8 cayenne.

  7. 5 stars
I made this chili for my family and it was phenomenal! This will be my go to from now on! We like a little bit more spice (even though I did use the ground cayenne) so next time I think I will add in a little tiny bit of freshly dried cayenne. But this recipe had soo much flavor! It’s worth a try!!!

  8. 5 stars
I made this tonight and it’s phenomenal! I’ve tried many different chili recipes and haven’t fallen in love with any of them until now. So glad I stumbled across this recipe!

  9. 5 stars
Just made this tonight, if not the best chili, then it’s definitely top 3. I added maybe just a bit more cayenne. Cheddar cheese, sour cream and green onion on top. Perfect.

  10. 5 stars
Great recipe. Easy to do most items are staples in our house making it easy to pull together. I kept the cayenne as my men love spicy! Thanks for sharing. Definitely will keep this in my bag of tricks to whip up again.

  11. 5 stars
This was so good and my whole family loved it. We ate it with corn chips and the only change we made was to put less cumin and less chili powder. It was so delicious and not too hard to make even though I’m only eleven! 🙂

  12. 5 stars
I seriously use this recipe every time I make chili. My husband grew up on chili and this is by far his favorite too. Thank you for sharing!!

  13. Excellent recipe! Used kidney and pintos…and a combo of ground beef and Italian sausage…eyeballed it a bunch as I do but still, it was the best chili I’ve ever made! Thank you!

  14. 5 stars
Great recipe! We doubled this recipe and it was really good. I would probably do a little less chili powder next time but otherwise great flavor.

  15. 5 stars
My husband requested homemade chili (but I hadn’t made any in over ten years), then I found this recipe. After a quick trip to the grocery store, voila! The chili tasted good and the recipe was simple and thorough. Thanks!

  16. 5 stars
Sooooooo delicious! I used the exact measurements for the seasonings as a foundation for flavor and then added additional seasoning for my taste preference.

    It’s sooooooooo yummy! Solid recipe!

  17. 5 stars
My husband husband is a very picky eater. He loved this recipe and so did I! I think this is the best chili ever!!! I added a little bit of cinnamon and only used 2 tablespoons of sugar and used garlic salt instead of garlic powder (just a pinch). This is a recipe we will make from now on!

  18. 5 stars
I’ve been making this recipe with no changes for years now and its awesome every single time. My husband smothers his hot dogs in it, i eat it as is with some green onions and sour cream. Delicious!

  19. 5 stars
The ABSOLUTE MOST AMAZING chili recipe!! The only thing I didn’t add was the diced tomatoes and didn’t even need it. Will be remaking again and again.

  20. 5 stars
My new go to chili recipe. Simple and delicious. 2 of my 3 picky teens even liked it. The other wouldn’t even try it saying she didn’t like chili. Whatever. More for the rest of us! (I only had chili/pinto beans in the cupboard so that is what I used. Next time I will try the kidney beans.)

    1. 5 stars
Perfect as written. My mix I used forever was discontinued and I’ve been searching for another recipe for chili for years. This is a keeper!
      Thank you.

    2. 5 stars
This is a very good chili! I just tweaked it a little by adding a 15oz can of tomato sauce instead of 8 oz and 2 cans pink beans instead of 1 can. I like a lot of beans. I’ve made many chili recipes through the years and this is my favorite! My husband liked it also. Served with shredded cheddar on top, yummy!

  21. 5 stars
You’re right — it tastes just like Mom used to make and is delicious. My wife, who is New York Sicilian heritage, learned to cook in her grandmother’s kitchen. In 38 years of marriage she had never made chili. What an outstanding dish she made! Thanks from both of us.

    1. 5 stars
This recipe is perfect. I love the addition of sugar, and I also went a little heavy on the cayenne pepper. Topped it with cheese, sour cream and also diced avocado 😋 10/10 will probably always use this recipe!

      1. 5 stars
I found this chili recipe a couple years ago and I’ve made it every couple months since then. It’s my absolute go-to and everyone I’ve ever served it to has asked for the recipe.

  22. Outstanding!! I doubled recipe, added the Cayenne, and 20 Sheshitos and 3 medium Jalapeños. At the end, before serving I added 1/2 cup of real Vermont Maple Syrup. Don’t know how well Pancake Syrup would have been. Forgot to say earlier, I also added 1 lbs of sweet Italian sausage.

  23. 5 stars
Yep- all the reviewers were right- this is the best chili recipe I have ever made! Made for a Friendsgiving gathering & everyone loved it! I made it the day before as someone suggested, added just a little cayenne & a can of garbanzo beans (just for the fun of it). Served with shredded cheese & sour cream. Delicious.

  24. 5 stars
It’s a good quick chili with basic ingredients and spices. I added a couple more herb and spice (Mexican chocolate, oregano and cinnamon) to personalize it and add to an already very good flavor base.

  25. 5 stars
First time making the chili 🌶️ I was pleasantly surprised by the flavor was my family. I had never used beef broth in my chili so I was taken a back. It came out very tasty and my girlfriend wants me to make another pot. Well done who ever came up with the recipe. Five Star ⭐✨

  26. 5 stars
Delicious nutritious recipe, so add as much heat as you like. I added red dried chilis and substituted sugar for a chopped carrot for sweetness.

  27. 5 stars
I absolutely love this chili recipe! My 24-year-old grandson loved the chili and gave it a 10 out of 10 and I have to agree! I certainly will make this again but I think I’m going to have to double it because it went fast!

  28. Excellent recipe ! The taste brings me back to my childhood and the spices make it !!! Especially the sugar ! Thank you ! Using this recipe also for a meal train!

  29. 5 stars
I have made this recipe many times and the only thing I have done different (wife asked for) is put in a teaspoon of cinnamon and a tablespoon of peanut butter. The rest is the original recipe. When I first made this it was phenomenal, of course.

Thanks for the recipe, it’s a big keeper in our house!!!

  30. 5 stars
Excellent for a quick chili recipe. We loved it. My family likes spicy so we used hot Rotel kept the Cheyenne and used a little less sugar. ❤️❤️Will make this again. Thanks for the recipe

  31. 5 stars
Amazing! I omitted the onion so kids didnt complain and used chili ready beans and tomatoes. I also reduced the beef broth to one cup for a thicker consistency. This will be a staple in our rotation.

  32. Too much spice- family did not like
Made it as stated in recipe-
    4 TABLESPOONS of cumin and
    5 TABLESPOONS of chili powder
    And
    3 TABLESPOONS of garlic powder??!!
    Is this correct?
    PLEASE RESPOND

    1. 5 stars
We’ve been craving chili and this didn’t disappoint! Recommend adding the cayenne pepper that is optional. It really elevated the flavor of the chili. Will make this again and again. 10 stars if I could. Thanks for a great recipe.

  33. 5 stars
This is fantastic! Made with Impossible ground beef, diced tomatoes/chilies and added some beer. Will definitely put on the rotation, so easy and good!

  34. 5 stars
Great basic chili recipe. I never add sugar to my chili. The 1 1/2 cups of broth seemed like too much. I used just 1 cup and it was plenty. It was simple to make and delicious.

  35. Amazing recipe and soooo easy. I’ve gotten so many compliments. Everyone says it’s the best. I don’t usually have cayenne pepper so I leave it out. I usually double it and swap a can of tomatoes for diced tomatoes with green chilies (mild). Easy recipe to adjust to your own taste.

  36. 5 stars
My husband and my family said it was the best chili they have tasted. I added an extra can of kidney beans and I used one less tablespoon of cumin and sugar because I had never used it before and I wanted to make sure we liked it but it turned out excellent. I also have never used a can of beef broth in my chili before but that added to it very well done

  37. 4 stars
Great chili recipe with one exception. Way too much cumin in the recipe. It overpowers everything. Next time I will reduce cumin to 2 teaspoons and see if that helps.

  38. I’ve been using this recipe for at least the last four years, it’s truly the best recipe I’ve come across! So delicious!

    1. 5 stars
I had a group of eight over and everybody raved about the chili. They said it was so good. It was very delicious. I’ve never put sugar in chili before. It brought the flavor of the spices out.

  39. 5 stars
Awesome😋 👏🏽 I used 2cups of beef broth and 2 tablespoons of sugar when I taste the seasoning mix it was the perfect taste for me, so I didn’t add extra. My go to chili recipe!

    Thanks! 😊

  40. The best chili I have every made. Ingredients is on point. My whole family loves it when say sey chili for dinner

  41. 5 stars
I decided to make chili last night, but the recipe I usually use is too spicy for me right now, so I decided to find a new one that was more mild. The only modification I made was to add two large whole peeled carrots, which helped cut through the acid of the tomatoes. This recipe checks every box. Even our family in town from Minnesota loved it! My four year old ate two bowls, and I made it through the night without indigestion. This is our new go to chili recipe. Thank you!

  42. 5 stars
Made this amazing recipe tonight, I love it! Next time I will leave out the cayenne pepper since I’m not a spicy kind of girl, but even with it it still was good!

    1. 5 stars
The chilli was very tasty. I used left over tender roast instead of hamburger. Gotta keep stretching the dollar in simple, yummy ways

    1. 5 stars
So good and I don’t add the sugar. I serve it over rice and top with cheddar cheese, sour cream and a splash of hot sauce!

  43. 5 stars
I love this recipe. It’s quick and simple and it’s easy a great chili recipe to use as a base when experimenting.

      1. 5 stars
I made this today because it was just me and I only had 1lb of meat. I substituted the tomato sauce with tomato purée. This worked perfect as it took some of the sweetness the other comments mentioned.

  44. 5 stars
Absolutely love this recipe! I think it is the base for all perfect chili’s. I tinker with it by adding 6 different kinds of peppers, less beans, and more beef. Excellent for beginners like myself. I’be made twice within 5 days due to demand.

  45. 5 stars
This is a great recipe. I’ve made it twice now. It’s delicious and easy to make. It’s now my go-to chili recipe. I left out the sugar this time to see if I miss it. It’s cooking now. Can’t wait to have some.

  46. 5 stars
Best Chili recipe I have found yet!! I made this for the first time today and it was delicious!! I did throw in a chipotle in adobe sauce and it was perfect! just the right amount of kick to it.

  47. 5 stars
This is such a good and easy recipe! I substitute the diced tomatoes for Rotella hot (we like spice in our household) and it’s amazing. I also upped the seasoning a bit, thanks so much for a great meal!

  48. 5 stars
Very tasty. I left out the sugar and added a tub of BBQ shredded pork to a double batch of the Chili. The BBQ pork replaces the sugar and adds some additional texture and flavor in addition to the ground beef. Lots of complements.

  49. 5 stars
Turned out delicious! I added a couple of cloves of fresh minced garlic with the onions, a bit of paprika, and some onion powder just to jazz it up a bit, and all the picky eaters in my house loved it! For the really picky eaters, I would suggest leaving out the tomatoes or blending them up.

  50. 5 stars
I look at this recipe anytime I make chili as it reminds me of ingredients I may forget. I add a bit of corn to it it only brightens dish.
For a kiddo or person who won’t take heat:
Use small amount of brown sugar to theirs. Should pull out heat.

  51. 5 stars
    Absolutely Fantastic!!!!!
I followed the exact recipe plus used the optional cayenne pepper. I have to say it was the best chili I’ve ever made! This is for sure a keeper and will be my only chili recipe going forward! You have to try this recipe!!!!

  52. 5 stars
Seriously the most tasty and easy chili to throw together! This is my go to recipe, and everyone who tries it LOVES it

  53. 5 stars
This is incredibly good and a favorite/weekly meal in my household- I halved the cumin, added a little more sugar, halved the cayenne, and added a can of green chilis. This with sweet cornbread makes the PERFECT fall/winter meal. I will forever make this recipe

  54. 5 stars
Thanks for a qwik & yummy Chili recipe! I added all your listed ingredients plus a 7oz can of chipotles in adobo sauce thst was soon to expire.
    It was so good! Thanksabunch!

  55. 5 stars
Super delicious! The chili seasoning is amazing. I did add jalapeno. I substituted Morningstar Incogmeato plant based ground and let me tell you this is my new chili recipe. Thank you for sharing.

  56. 5 stars
It really is the best Chili recipe! I have made quite a few different Chili recipes in my time and this is definitely THE best! Kudos to whomever came up with it!

  57. 5 stars
Notes to self…My daughter doesn’t like tomato chunks so I blended up 4 fresh tomatoes. Also doubled the sugar. Used half the cumin. And added 1T. Dried onion powder. She loved it.

    1. 5 stars
The best chili recipe! Received many compliments and people asking for the recipe! I did cut back on the cumin only because I’m not a fan.

  58. 5 stars
Great recipe. I added a few ingredients and it’s delicious. I use half hot Italian sausage and half ground beef. I add a bell pepper and jalapeño with the onion and omit the cayenne. I add fresh garlic, but i don’t omit the garlic powder. It’s delicious every time. 😋

  59. So I just made this for dinner tonight, i quadrupled the recipe cause we have a big group to feed and like left overs. It’s been quite the hit, my husband gave glowing reviews. We did not add cayenne. My husband probably would like it, but I didn’t have any. Thank you for sharing this great recipe!!

  60. 5 stars
I followed your recipe pretty close but realized I had no kidney beans but I did have some great northern beans. ( No one noticed). Where I deviated to add my own little flair was… I added ground chipotle pepper instead of cayenne. I love the flavor of chipotle so much. I use it often. And I figured this would be a great add. And it was. Very smoky and yummy. Everybody said so. Thank you

  61. 5 stars
I’ve made this recipe once following the directions and it was amazing except I used tomato juice instead of beef broth. My family now has a favorite recipe and have requested I make it again tonight. Thank you for this awesome recipe.

  62. 5 stars
This is a great recipe! I made it a couple of weeks ago and my wife said it was the best chili I’ve ever made. I made it again yesterday and entered it into our neighborhood chili cookoff and took first place! It’s a winner for sure.

  63. 5 stars
I needed a quick and easy last minute, hot and hearty Halloween meal and I found it. I used all the handy ingredients I had in my pantry aside from substituting in black beans. I did leave out the cayenne only because I don’t care for it. My chili-loving teen was impressed with the flavor and thickness and that I whipped it up in a hot minute. Served over rice, topped with cheddar and a dollop of sour cream it was delish!!

  64. 5 stars
Just won my office chili cook off contest with this chili. Except I used half regular chili powder and half kashmir chili powder. Called it kashmir chili. Thanks for the help and have a great one.

  65. 5 stars
Best chili recipe. I made the recipe without any changes. It’s fast, delicious and everyone loves it. I serve it with grated cheddar cheese, sour cream, chopped fresh tomatoes, chopped white onion, and fresh chopped lettuce for the toppings.

  66. 5 stars
I’ve made this chili 4 times now and have followed the recipe as-is each time. This is definitely the perfect chili recipe!

  67. 5 stars
I wanted to try a new recipe. I have a very good one but it uses McCormick seasoning packets. This is now my new chili recipe! The seasoning is on point and everyone loved it! Served with a jalapeño cheddar cornbread with honey butter and everyone loved it! Thank you!

  68. 5 stars
This chili was the all time best! My family loved it And another family member missed out on its goodness. Can’t wait to try it on nachos.

  69. Waaaaay too much cumin! If you want a chili with a southwest flavor, then this is the recipe, but it is NOT traditional. Even if you wanted a southwestern flavor, this amount of cumin is overpowering.

  70. 5 stars
Made this for the first time tonight for a Chili cookoff, I used ground turkey, added 3 T of paste to add more tomato flavor, and since I didn’t have kidney beans I used black beans. I won 2nd place!! This was delicious chili and I can’t wait to make it again!!

  71. 5 stars
I don’t usually leave reviews for anything really, but I made this chili and my family loves it. I was skeptical of adding sugar but this chili is really amazing. I added a couple minced cloves of garlic with the onions at the beginning and yeah I just have to say thank you for sharing this recipe!!

  72. 5 stars
Delicious!!! I cut the cayenne in half and it was perfect. We served it over cornbread and garnished with cheddar cheese, sour cream and green onions. It was excellent!

  73. 5 stars
Seriously the best chili ever! When I double the recipe I use 1lb of Turkey burger and 1lb of bison. It is so good!

  74. 5 stars
Super easy and delicious! Personally, I like replacing the cayenne with chipotle powder now and then for a lighter spice and a smokier flavor. Thank you 😀

  75. 5 stars
Made 3x the serving size of this and its by far the best and tastiest chili I’ve ever had. Served it with sour cream and mild/sharp cheddar cheese on top! I am not into super spicy, and still loved the cayenne in it for a little spice!

  76. 5 stars
This was a really great recipe, even though I was missing some key ingredients. I’ll definitely be making it again with ALL of the ingredients! 10/10

  77. 5 stars
Great recipe. Chilli turned out delicious. I left out cayenne pepper as well. It was just right for hubby and me. That’s again best chilli ever!

  78. 5 stars
It is just like my mother made. Brings back memories of coming home from school for lunch to a delicious bowl of chili

  79. 5 stars
I always used packaged chili seasoning. I have to watch my sodium so I used no salt beef stock I had in my fridge, no salt petite diced tomatoes and no salt tomato sauce. I had a can of light red kidney beans (I know now that there are no salt beans in the market) and half of the cumin. I did end up putting salt in but only a teaspoon and also some cayenne pepper to taste. This is by far the most delicious chili and will be used from now on. My disabled son loved it and gave me a thumbs. It was served with cornbread.

  80. Can you use chicken broth instead of beef broth? Just getting ready to make this chill. I will let you know how I like it. Hope you can answer my question before I start.

  81. 5 stars
I don’t even like chili. I make it so I can feed my family cornbread for dinner 😉 But this?! This is delicious! I am blown away! Making this again soon. Everyone in our family loved it, including the kiddos.

  82. 5 stars
Made this Chili recipe, and it was delicious! I added jalapeños because my family likes it spicy, and we have no littles. So good!

  83. 5 stars
Everyone in my household loves this recipe. Even the picky eaters that promised that would hate chili lol. This is something to save and pass on. Easy recipe to reach the young ones.

  84. 5 stars
Very Good and very easy. I have slaved for hours cooking chili from scratch and this recipe is as good if not better without all the work and wait.

  85. 5 stars
This is my go to recipe and is pantry/freezer ready anytime! Good as is but I use fire roasted tomatoes and chipotle instead of cayenne

  86. 5 stars
Really Delicious…sauce was nice and thick…I used black beans and 20 oz ground bison as they’re healthier. Also added a diced green bell pepper and minced garlic instead of powder. Then added the extra amount of spice and other ingredients accordingly but put 1/2 the amount of sugar. Omitted the cayenne and was still spicy enough. Love the prior suggestion of adding a dash of cinnamon…will have to try that next time. Delish!

  87. 5 stars
Thank you Lynda! This was great. I used all ingredients except Cheyanne pepper. The combination of spices was terrific. My husband loves it. Even made chili dogs from leftovers.

  88. 5 stars
Hum delicious with a few modifications! I used only a 1/2 tb sugar and 1tb everything but the elote seasoning from Trader Joe’s (it has both cumin and Chile pepper) . Everything else was the same. It was perfect!

  89. 5 stars
I have made several different chili recipes in my 30 years of cooking and this is by far my favorite. I share it with everybody, Thank you so much for this delicious recipe!

  90. 5 stars
This is my go to chili recipe. I’ve made this about 50 times only leaving out the salt and pepper. My family loves it. I serve it with saltine crackers, sliced cheese, and sour cream.

  91. 5 stars
Easy and amazing chili. I modified it a little bit and used rotel tomatoes with green chilies. Also added a can of black beans and doubled tomato sauce. Served with honey butter corn bread. Great for a chilly rainy evening.

  92. 5 stars
Followed the recipe to a T except for the amount of cumin I put into it, I put 1 tablespoon because I’m not. big cumin fan. This is my first time cooking Chili ever and I have to say it came out darn good.

  93. 5 stars
This was so easy and probably the best chili I have ever made! A combination of spicey with a hint of sweet. I did not have garlic powder, so used chopped garlic. Delicious 🥰

  94. 5 stars
If you want to blow your guests or family away, I recommend these “secret sauce” additions. Fish sauce, Worcestershire sauce, and substitute Vegeta for salt. Trust me.

  95. 5 stars
I love chili but always thought it would be too difficult to make (or take too long). I found this recipe a few days ago and couldn’t wait to tey it… And wow! Amazing!

I made is as directed, let it simmer a few mins longer, and served it with tortilla strips, cheese, and crusty bread. I’m obsessed!

I just made this recipe and it was DELICIOUS!! Just the right combination of everything. I couldn’t find sugar, so used honey. Used beef bouillion plus water for the broth. Otherwise I think I was quite faithful to the recipe and will make it again. (I’ve had many chilis over DECADES and do feel this is one of the best, if not the best).

  97. 5 stars
This chili was delicious! I made a few slight changes- added a little less cumin, a little more cayenne, and a can of black beans. Loved it!!

  98. 5 stars
My guys liked my chili before, but now they LOVE it! I’ve used this recipe three times now, minus the cayenne pepper. We top it with cheese, sour cream, fritos, and green onions. Yummy! A DEFINITE KEEPER!

  99. 5 stars
Best chili recipe every!!! My wife and kids love it. I’ve made it about five times already, it’s great every time. Thank you for the recipe!!!

So I love slow cooker style! So I cooked the meat and onion and I used ground turkey instead of beef, then added it all to slow cooker on low for 5 hours. I also added an extra tbsp of tomato paste and 1 -15oz can of black beans.

Amazing!!! Tasted so good! Topped it off with cheese, sour cream, green onion, sriracha, and corn bread!

  101. I’m a southern cook from Tennessee for over 30 years . Discovered this recipe and the Wholesome dish’s for meatloaf also . I give both 5 stars !!! Excellent flavor. Thanks Wholesome Dish for sharing these wonderful recipes !! Much 💘 from Tennessee !!

I’ve made literally hundreds of pots of chili in dozens of variations throughout the six decades of my life, and while I liked all of them, THIS one takes the cake. I’ve never quite nailed the perfect balance of spice, rich, and slightly sweet like this one does. I’m vegetarian, so I swapped the beef for vegan “ground beef” and couldn’t tell the difference.
A bowl of this hearty goodness over rice is perfect for the chilly nights we’re already having in upstate New York. Thank you!!

  103. 5 stars
Made this tonight for dinner & it was so good. I didn’t add cumin because I didn’t have any or money to buy & it was still so good. I added macaroni so added 2 extra cups of broth. Definitely making this again & again & again 😋

  104. 5 stars
Great recipe. I ‘mostly followed’ your recipe and substituted an 1/8 th teaspoon of homemade pepper powder rather than cayenne. Perfect for me.

    Hi!
I know Zionsville! My grandparents had the lake across from Loves Truck stop off of the service road next to 65. We called it Idle Hour Lake. Leave the driveway, take a left and Marsh’s was the grocery store. Crazy, isnt it? 🙂 Anyway, your chili was a hit! We like things a little spicy, so I have to say I threw in some smoked Chipolte, and I always add a little black coffee to dishes like this; about 1/4 cup or so. It adds a depth of flavor that we enjoy, as it compliments the beef stock. Thank you for posting, and letting me go back home for a moment.

  106. 5 stars
Great basic old school chili recipe like my mom made. I made this and it’s great as is! Other have mentioned a tiny amount of cinnamon is good. Consider adding a teaspoon on red vinegar and don’t make fun of me 2 tablespoons grape jelly.

    Thanks for this recipe

  107. This recipe really is incredible. I’ve been making it for years now and I don’t change anything at all (I don’t do the optional cayenne because I have small children). It’s one of very few dishes that everyone in my house agrees on!

  108. 5 stars
I made a double batch tonight along with air fried hot dogs, homemade coleslaw, grilled buns, cheese and ritz crackers. Absolutely delicious and an amazingly easy meal after work for my family ❤ it’s a keeper!!!

  109. 5 stars
I made this last weekend. Only change was added 1 chopped red bell pepper, Was great chile. Making it again next weekend.

  110. 5 stars
I’ve made this chili recipe twice and it gets better ever time. The recipe is delicious and is great, and plenty enjoyable in these cold Ohio Fall/ Winter months. Thank you for sharing the recipe 😀.

  111. This recipe was waaaayy off on the spices!!!! I used only half of what was called for and my throats was burning 🔥. Think think they meant teaspoon not tablespoon. Very disappointed ☹️

  112. 5 stars
AMAZING! I made this for my family and made the mistake of saying, “this chili is perfect” in front of my wife who responded,” better than mine?”
I responded, “actually, yes”. So you know it has to be good.
    😁

  113. 5 stars
This chili was delicious! I’m saving it to add to my rotation during the colder weather. I omitted the cayenne pepper to keep it mild for my little ones. We all loved it!

  114. 5 stars
This is my favorite chili recipe! I use fire roasted crushed tomatoes in place of diced, and a little more cayenne.

  115. 5 stars
Very good but….be careful with cayenne pepper. Too much even for me. Added an additional can of tomatoes to tame it and served with sour cream. Will make again without cayenne! 🥵

  116. 5 stars
My first time ever making chili. It needs more kick to it. I did cut back on the garlic. I did not use cayenne. I will try it again. Thanks for the receipt

  117. 5 stars
Just made this for dinner and it was delicious! I’m vegan so I subbed impossible ground. Seasoning is perfect. This is a definite keeper.

  118. 5 stars
I didn’t have beef stock, so substituted with chicken broth. Used pinto beans bc that’s what I had in the pantry. It was delicious 😋 Good job on this perfect chili recipe!

  119. 5 stars
This was literally the most incredible chili that I’ve ever had!!!! It was the perfect amount of sweet and spicy. And so so easy. And the hubs loved it. UGH SOOOO good cant wait to make it again soon.

  120. 5 stars
Great recipe for Chili! Next time I will double this. Wasn’t enough for my family of 3. It was a hit with cornbread!

  121. 5 stars
OH MY!! This is SOOO good! I cut back on the chili powder. Used water instead of broth and tomato puree instead of diced tomatoes (just eyeball for consistency) and HOLY MOTHER OF PEARL! Oh this is so good!! Definitely making again!

  122. 5 stars
I lost count how many times I’ve made this. I just double the recipe each time I make it now. It’s just me and hubs, but it’s even better as leftovers and lunches!

  123. 5 stars
OMG! THIS HAS GOT TO BE THE VERY BEST CHILI I HAVE EVER HAD!! I added too much cayenne pepper, but it is not too hot! I love this recipe! I had no tomato sauce or paste so I used ketchup and an extra can of diced tomatoes with green chili. I must share this recipe!! Thank you so much!

  124. 5 stars
I made this chili last night as I was craving it with these cold fall nights! I usually use my crock pot but didn’t put it in in time, so I was looking for a new recipe. this was easy, quick, and delicious on the stovetop! All of the flavors and measurements of each really complimented each other.

  125. 5 stars
Thank you for a fantastic chili recipe! I’ve tried WAY too many chili recipes that were nothing more than bean and vegetable soup with some chili powder, and realized I was just done with any chili recipe that asked me to start by chopping mounds of celery and carrots. I needed this one!

We made a few small changes – added a can of black beans (we like our chili with a lot of beans) and a handful of red lentils, used smoked paprika instead of cayenne, and also a heaping spoonful of Korean gochujang paste with the tomato paste, because it adds a kick and serious depth of flavor. Oh, and a can of drained sweetcorn, which really look it over the top to a solid 10 for me.

We will come back to this again and again.

  126. 5 stars
This recipe was very good. I don’t have much of a sweet tooth, so that little bit of sugar in the recipe made this a little too (weirdly) sweet for me, even with the cayenne. There’s not a lot of heat to this recipe, so next time I make it I’ll probably omit the sugar and add some diced jalapeños.

  127. 5 stars
This was dinner tonight. I followed the recipe but added chopped green bell peppers and couldn’t add as much spice. This so far is my favorite chili recipe! My oh so picky preteen enjoyed it and so did I!

  128. 5 stars
If I could, I’d throw both of my shoes at you (it’s a compliment)!!! Not only is this the quickest recipe I’ve made, the flavor was wayyy better than some of my 3 hour long recipes. I’m absolutely hooked! Thank you!

  129. 5 stars
I made this Chili recently for my daughters and I and it was a hit! I used black beans and pinto beans. Will definitely make again!

  130. 5 stars
This is my go to for Chile recipe for my family. Everybody is happy when I serve it up, which is a rare event.
    So I thank you.

  131. 5 stars
I cut the sugar in half, added a half teaspoon of cinnamon and used 1 teaspoon of red pepper flakes vs the cayenne. I’m also pescatarian so I used Impossible meat instead of beef + an extra can of beans. SOOO GOOD!! Thank you for this recipe. Perfect for the fall!

  132. 5 stars
Ooo we like spicy this is so easy to make time to put on that winter coat this is the chili to help delicious making some corn bread to go along side yummy

  133. 5 stars
This is definitely a delicious chili. I definitely changed things up a tiny bit after trying it once and deciding it for sure needs a fattier meat (at least to win a chili cook off!) So I used 80/20 and also did green peppers and fresh garlic with the onions. I also used chili beans instead of plain beans. So much flavor!

  134. 5 stars
Made this yesterday and let it cook on low in slow cooker. It was perfect. Used chipotle ground pepper. Just right amount of heat and flavor.

  135. 5 stars
Yep, I tried it. My husband loved it. I’ve been looking for a recipe that I didn’t have to buy a pack of seasoning to season it. This is it. This one want be deleted

  136. 5 stars
We have been making your chili for YEARS! It’s seriously sooo good. Although I do double the meat and add a green, red and yellow or orange bell pepper to the mix. Thank you for sharing your wonderful recipe!

I had to leave a review because I just noticed you live in Zionsville & I do as well! Such a small world

  137. Pretty good chili, just sweet.
I followed the recipe as it was, and found it far too sweet. I ended up having to add a good amount of cayenne and tabasco to cut the sweetness. Next time, will not be adding sugar at all.

  138. 5 stars
10/10 stars, delicious! Perfect heat, I added in pepperoni’s and topped with pickled jalapenos, sour cream and sharp cheddar, this recipe exceeded expectations, will def be using everytime I make chili now!

  139. 5 stars
Just made this… WOW!! So simple and easy to follow and I love the option to double or triple the recipe and not have to calculate it all over again. I also omitted the chunky tomatoes and subbed for more beans!

  140. 5 stars
Excellent recipe – I doubled it to feed a family of 12 and it worked out perfectly. Some went back for seconds!

  141. 5 stars
I don’t like chili-never make it. But, my husband does so I decided to make it and found this recipe. It was absolutely delicious. I did a few alterations to the recipe by using diced tomatoes with habaneros and the cayenne and yes it was hot so I served it over rice with cornbread. I still can’t believe how great it was!!! Thanks for the recipe- I will make again and again.

  142. 5 stars
This chili is delicious – rich, spicy, and flavorful. My husband is a tough critic and he thoroughly enjoyed it. I can’t wait to make this again and will add it to the rotation.

  143. 5 stars
LOVE LOVE LOVE this recipe!!! Super easy & quick to make. So delicious!!! Love spicy food, Added the cayenne pepper & it’s not too spicy it’s just right!! Second time making it & the fam loved it as well. Will definitely be making again.

  144. 5 stars
Very good! I doubled this and used finely diced stew meat for 1lb instead of all ground beef. Only other changes that I made were to cut down a little on sugar and salt, added a diced jalapeño, some fresh roasted Hatch NM green chile and a half cup of dark beer along with the cayenne. Perfect with a piece of corn bread or on chili dogs!

  145. 5 stars
This is the best chili ever!! I have made so many recipes before and they just weren’t good but this is the best❣️

  146. 5 stars
The family loved it. It is just like my mom used to make. I have tried many chili recipes; this is the best one so far. My kids asked if I could put some in their lunch boxes for school. I made no adjustments to the recipe.

  147. 5 stars
My first time ever making Chili and I signed up to bring some for my sons football team dinner. This was the first crockpot of chili gone and I was told it was awesome. My family agreed 🙂 I going to be making this again!
I am a spice wuss so I left out the cayenne pepper and I added one can of fire roasted green peppers instead, it was perfect!

  148. 5 stars
omg. OMG. I still have to bring it to a low boil then simmer. But WOW this really is the BEST chili.
Making it for my son 4 year birthday today and it is absolutely outstanding. Better than canned hormel chili with beans, and we love that one. I will only ever make this recipe.

    Note:
    – I forgot to get tomato sauce, so I made my own using the leftover paste. I mixed it 1:1 with water until I hit 8 oz. And added 1 clove minced garlic, and Italian seasoning to taste
-I also used the cayenne pepper (1/4tsp) and it added great flavor, not spicy at all. (If your worried about spice, just add a little less)

  149. 5 stars
5 stars! Look no further this will be my go to for ever more! Thank you so much for sharing! In my normal style, I did change modify a bit and added hot Italian sausage along with ground beef (Extra protein), I used two cans of rotel tomatoes and chilies instead of 15 oz can of diced tomatoes and I used a whole can of tomato paste. It is amazing!

  150. 5 stars
My daughter and husband , based in Kosovo visited us recently, I made this recipe with a few tweaks .
They liked it so much , they’re contemplating opening a shop in Kosovo offering chili!
They said it would be a hit there!

  151. 5 stars
I didn’t realize how hot the cayenne pepper was going to make this chili. I don’t cook with it often. I would suggest cutting it in half or omitting it if you do not like spicy! Otherwise this is a great recipe. We enjoyed it!

    1. I goofed up and didn’t come here first to read the comments. I doubled the recipe and it’s way too hot. I only used 1/8 tsp of Cayenne Pepper. I have now crossed Cayebbe Pepper out so as not to make that mistake again.

    2. 5 stars
This was a delicious chili. I used brown sugar which added another layer of flavor. Also added twice the amount of beans.Cooked it a little longer to thicken it up. Reduced the amount if cayenne for our preference. Will definitely make again!

    3. 5 stars
This is now our go to recipe for chili because we love it so much! I omit the cayenne pepper, and I use an entire 15 oz can of beef broth since 12 oz leaves some out to waste. To compensate for the extra liquid, and because we like thicker chili, I also add a small can of tomato paste. We’ve recently been replacing the sugar with a granulated sugar substitute as we are trying to be as sugar free as possible. I’ve made this for a potato & chili bar before, and everyone there loved it too! They nearly liked the pot clean!

    4. 5 stars
Very easy to make and had lots of happy tummy n smiles at dinner:). Love, love this recipe…just added some black beans and a pinch of cinnamon and voilà!

    5. 5 stars
Loved this recipe but I have a weak stomach so I omitted the cayenne pepper, doubled the recipe and added 1 can tomato paste, 1 can Italian diced tomatoes, 2 cans kidney beans, 1 can northern beans, 1 can black beans and a can of chili beans and 2 lbs Hamburger. We like thick chili and it turned out amazing!! Sprinkled some Shredded cheese and a dollop
of sour cream and we have an easy new chili recipe the family LOVES! Thank you so much for sharing. 😍

    6. 5 stars
I don’t really like Chili but this recipe is great! I did omit the cayenne pepper but this recipe has just the right amount of spice.

    1. 5 stars
I never made chili before (I’m not much of a cook) but I followed this recipe exactly and it’s delicious. Perfect amount of heat for my taste.

    2. 5 stars
I made this recipe for the second time because of the simplicity in it. I also leave out cayenne pepper and my daughter does not like spice. My daughter eas sick and wanted comfort food and I said want some chilli. Yes she said so I did a small batch. My wife doesn’t really like chilli all that much but she ate a spoonful, because that is what was left and she asked, can you make that exact recipe again. So thank you so much for this recipe.

    3. 5 stars
I literally never use another chilli recipe! I like mine to have a lot of spice so I end up adding more spices than recommended but this is the perfect recipe for the classic chilli taste. I will be using turkey this time and I know it will still taste amazing!

    4. 4 stars
Agree with the previous comment cut down the Cumin and definitely cut down the sugar. To add don’t use granulated sugar use brown sugar instead. If you can use chop roast home ground, it’s better quality, no fillers and the taste of the meat screams chili!! Otherwise this is a really good quick recipe.

    5. 5 stars
This chili was the BEST and even better the next day. I doubled the recipe but next time I will 5x the recipe to share with my famiy.

    6. Delicious delicious chili. I love trying different recipes with different herbs and spices. This was the best with a glass of cold beer or a glass of Merlot red wine. Great chili

    1. 5 stars
Made this for a fall festival, chili cook off, and it won first place. I did add three cans of beans, light red kidney, dark red kidney, and pinto beans. (Doubled the recipe as well). Thanks for a great classic chili with really good flavor.

    2. 5 stars
Great recipe but of course I had to alter it which I do with everything I cook. I added diced carrots & celery with the onions, I also used Rigel & diced tomatoes and added the Cayenne was Spicy but very good I think next time I might add a second can of kidney beans

  152. I’ve never liked my homemade chili, so I stopped making it. I’ve searched recipes trying others, I still wasn’t satisfied. I made this recipe this week and I absolutely love it. I now have a recipe that I will continue to make.

    1. 5 stars
This is the BEST chili recipe! I won a chili cook off with it! I double the cayenne cause I like it SPICY! Once it’s done cooking, I out it in a crock pot for about 24 hours, delish!

    2. 5 stars
I have tried several recipes, including my mothers but I could never get it just like hers. Found this one..simple but full of flavor! My kids LOOOVE IT! this is now my go to. Thank you so much for sharing!

    3. 5 stars
This is delicious. We won our church’s chili cook-off tonight with it. I did cut down on the cayenne just a bit was my family doesn’t like things too spicy. Thanks!

  153. 5 stars
almost made this exactly as the recipe but i ran out of cumin and used a sugar substitute. it still tasted great! will be using this recipe as long as i make chili.

    1. 5 stars
I used all of the spices as indicated including cayenne pepper. I chopped peeled, fresh tomatoes from the garden rather than using canned and I added an extra tablespoon of tomato paste with a little filtered water to replace the tomato juice that would have been in the can. I added an extra can of kidney beans and I used 2 lbs of stew beef instead of hamburger. It’s absolutely delicious and *flavor-full* !

I love the suggestions of toppings to include the chopped avocado. I’m sharing this with friends who always, like me, buy the chilli packet from the grocery store.

I love to use organic spices and this recipe allows me to do just that.

Thank you for putting this on the internet!
      Happy in the kitchen,
      Colleen Fritz

    2. 5 stars
The best recipe ever. I don’t like spicy so I don’t put in the cayenne pepper. I love this recipe as it’s the best chili I have ever had!

    1. 5 stars
Great recipe! I didn’t drain the meat fat because the recipe didn’t say to – should it be drained?

  154. 5 stars
Easy and definitely delicious! So glad I found the recipe and gave it a try. Keeping the recipe as one of my favorites. My husband said I should make a pot of it monthly during our Wisconsin winter.

    1. 5 stars
This chili came together nicely in such a short amount of time! It is delicious! I doubled the recipe and used 1 pound each of ground turkey and ground beef, which was delicious. I did not add the optional cayenne pepper and it was still plenty spicy for my family. This recipe is a keeper!

  155. 5 stars
Very good recipe. The only change I will make next time is to decrease the amount of cumin used. It was a bit strong for my taste. This recipe is definately a keeper!

    1. 5 stars
My NEW favorite chili dish!! I followed the recipe but used 2 Rotel diced tomato cans and 1 extra can of chili beans. (Only because I had more than 1 pound of frozen beef to work with.). My husband loves green peppers, so I put some in “his”. Great recipe!! Thank you!

  156. 5 stars
Every time I make chili this is the recipe I use. Very easy to make and the results are family pleasing.

    1. 5 stars
Excellent recipe. I like a stronger chili flavor so increased the chili powder to 4T. One can of dark and one can of light beans. Delicious.

  157. 5 stars
Best means best! I use the recipe just like it is here at home I use venison. Use it for students and I use it for home.

    1. 5 stars
We love this chili. My 2 young boys eat it up too. I don’t add cayenne pepper and I add more beggies to the pot with the onion. Today we did red and white onion, celery, green pepper, corn and pees. Sometimes I add carrots and mushrooms too.

  158. 5 stars
    Great recipe!
My daughter prefers impossible meat so I use a package of it instead of chop meat.
I also add Tabasco sauce. Everyone in the family enjoys it.

    1. Question please: normally I would brown the beef in a separate pan and drain off the grease. This recipe sounds like it keeps it all together in the large pot. So the grease is not a concern? Thanks!

  159. 5 stars
This recipe is a GREAT classic, traditional chili! This will be my go-to standard from now on. Perfect with some Fritos corn chips, shredded cheddar, and a spoon of sour cream.

    1. I need to make this for a chili cook off contest at church. What I need to know is if I use 6 pounds of ground beef do I need to 6× all the ingredients, too?

    2. 5 stars
Very mild and delicious recipe! I also added a lil beer and increased the amount of cumin by 1 teaspoon. Result was just fantastic 😁

    1. 5 stars
Absolutely delicious! My husband and I have always liked different variations of chili but this one was perfect for the both of us.

We have also substituted the ground beef for ground turkey & beef broth for chicken broth (just using up what we already had in the house) and it was AMAZING. Couldn’t even tell it was turkey instead of ground beef!

    2. 4 stars
It was yummy, but way WAY too much cumin. Next time I will be using half or less than half of the suggested amount. All I could taste was cumin and we are definitely feeling it in our stomachs today! However, after that adjustment I think this chili would be phenomenal.

  160. 5 stars
This recipe was fantastic!! I did not put in the cayenne pepper but used a can of diced tomatoes with green chilies. Just enough kick without overpowering the great taste of the chilli.

    1. 5 stars
This recipe has been my go to for over a year now and I take credit for at least finding it to share with my neighbors and family members who all request it.
My kids are ages 1-12 and they ALL love it and it’s hard to please them. We do omit the cayenne pepper of course. I’ve messed with it a bit and I would add an extra can of kidney beans to make it fuller. I’ve even substituted the ground beef for Bison and it tasted wonderful! Thank you so much.

    2. 5 stars
I was afraid it wouldn’t have that Chili kick, but it is perfect! I’ve always loved chili but never knew how to make It. This recipe is spot on! Even my 9 year old loves it! Served with white rice and cornbread for the win! Thanks for this amazing receipt! Just in time for those winter nights!

  161. 5 stars
Excellent & definitely my fave! Made vegetarian with a bag of frozen veggie crumbles and veggie broth instead of beef. Added 1/4 cup more veggie broth to make up for not having beef drippings and to allow longer simmer time (1 hr) to develop flavors. Also added a can of pinto beans. Mixed in spaghetti mac noodles, cheese, & sour cream to serve. A real winner to economically have great food all winter!

I’m no cook and almost skipped over this recipe for one with fewer ingredients. I’m glad I trusted all the great reviews and made this one. Don’t be intimidated if you rarely enter the kitchen like me. It really was easy and cleanup wasn’t terrible. I like that several ingredients just take 1 can: cuts down on prep time and dirty measuring cups/spoons.

  162. Discovered it about a month ago. Made it twice so far. My daughter even asked for the recipe. I used black beans as I had on hand and small can of garbanzo. So many spices and they all blend.

  163. 5 stars
I thought this was delicious and so easy. The only thing that I did differently was to add one chopped jalapeño. I would make it again

  164. 5 stars
This is my favorite beef chili recipe. It’s has a great taste and I would highly recommend this recipe to anyone who enjoys a tasty bowl of chili.

  165. 5 stars
This chili recipe was absolute PERFECTION! I am planning to make it again for a huge tailgate party. How can I prepare this in a huge crockpot vs. on the stove?

    1. 5 stars
Cook the onions and beef in a frying pan. Once cooked, add to the crockpot with the rest of the remaining ingredients. I would turn the temperature to high until it starts to bubble then switch to low and simmer for a few hours to let the flavors come through. I hope this helps.

  166. I made this tonight and tripled it, we’re a huge family, very yummy! I’ll be honest I cooked my beef and then dumped all the other ingredients in, then hard simmered it for 30 min. Next time I’ll try to give myself more time to actually follow the instructions 😂 but it was excellent and everyone liked it. I used about 1/2 t of cayenne (I don’t really measure just eyeball) and it had nice warm heat, 4 yo littlest loved it.

  167. I made this recipe exactly as it is written (including the cayanne) and I am so thankful I did. It is delicious and my new go to recipe for chili. Thank you for sharing it.

  168. 4 stars
This is a very good recipe but I thought that there was too much salt in it even after cutting the salt to 3/4 of a teaspoon and using beef broth with 50% less salt. That is why I gave it 4 stars. Other than that, it’s a great recipe.

  169. 5 stars
Great recipe for all ages I am a younger seasoned cook I loved it it was a great recipe spices were right on if you follow the recipe how it’s written my mother is 70 and her husband is 87 and they both enjoyed it it was perfect for everybody

  170. 5 stars
This is a great, easy to make crowd-pleaser. I love chili but could never just “throw together” a batch. This recipe is delicious with just the right amount of seasoning to be super-flavorable but not over-the-top for any sensitive palates. Hint: cut the optional amount of cayenne in half and it’s just enough to give a hint of heat, and still mild enough that my 8 year old daughter loves it!

  171. 5 stars
Great recipe!!! My chili came out great and taste delicious. My family enjoyed it and it will be a staple dish for this season!!

  172. 5 stars
I love this chili! It’s a Sunday standby in the fall and winter, and so easy i’ve basically memorized it. I did find it slightly, *slightly* flat, but adding a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar before simmering brings it to a perfectly balanced flavor. So delicious!

  173. 5 stars
Just made this Chili ,it is awesome in flavor and it will have a top spot in my cold weather dishes. .Simple and delicious 😋

Once we finished eating my wife said this goes in the family recipie book (replacing 3 others including sister and moms) we added an extra can of beans (white for color) and only used 1 table spoon of cummin, the kids don’t like spice and one plus all the chili was more than enough for us.
    Well done.

  175. 5 stars
I am probably the worst cook on this entire planet so I skeptical about making this on a night we invited friends over .. i followed the entire recipe down to every last detail .. holy cow .. tastes just like my grandmas, it’s the best meal I’ve made , and it accommodates all the picky eaters in my house

  176. 5 stars
Terrific recipe. I did halve the spices to lessen the heat and added green pepper. This will be my go to chili recipe!!!

  177. 5 stars
EASY PEASY RECIPE! KIDS LOVED IT!! SUGAR IS THE KICKER, TAKES AWAY THE BITTER TOMATO! I’VE HEARD ADD A TEASPOON OF COCOA POWDER TOO! THIS WAS GREAT, COMPLETELY FINISHED THE ENTIRE POT

  178. 5 stars
A note of caution. Not all chili powder is created equal. We have some that is super hot and I have to reduce the amount to a small fraction of what the recipe calls for. That said, once I found the right combination, this is my go-to chili recipe.

  179. 5 stars
I didn’t have any sugar so I added a can of condensed tomato soup as it’s a bit sweet and helped to balance all the spices. I also added two cans of drained mushrooms and a couple of tablespoons of Worcestershire sauce to give it more flavour. Turned out fantastic!

  180. 5 stars
Great spice combo. Easy to make and maybe took 20mins to put together. Made the mistake of adding too much beef and that made it a little more oily but and easy fix. Overall easy and tasty recipe.

  181. 5 stars
Amazing. Just amazing. I had my first taste of this chili 10 minutes ago and my tastebuds exploded. There was so much flavor! Mine turned out to be a bit oily but otherwise, it was fantastic. This will be a regular meal in my house!

  182. 5 stars
REALLY good Chili!! Possibly the best I’ve ever had and definitely the best I’ve ever made. And very simple!! The only deviation I made to the recipe was to add about 1/4 lag, chopped green pepper in with the onions.
I was a little worried about the amount of spices, but it worked beautifully.
Now to find a good cornbread recipe…

  183. 5 stars
Excellent recipe, but I think it’s better to cook the meat in a frying pan 1st, so you can drain the excessive fat easily. I also used a can of mixed beans which gives it a bit more flavor.

  184. 5 stars
This chili was perfect! I doubled the recipe because I had 4 cups of cooked red kidney beans. The whole family loved it! Thanks!

  185. 5 stars
Love this recipe! We made two pots one that was spicy and one that wasn’t. The one that wasn’t spicy I would reduce the amount of chili seasoning that you put in it. I ended up adding a couple of cans of beans to make it not so spicy. It is so good.
For the spicy one we use rotelle for the diced tomatoes. Both chilies were gone within two days so yummy.

  186. 5 stars
My husband said this chili was “addicting”. I am going to save it and use it from now on, I didn’t have tomato sauce and used crushed tomatoes instead. Other than that, I followed the recipe. Thanks!

  187. 5 stars
I consider myself hard to please. But this recipe is by far the best I have ever tasted, and I’m 70 years old. And it’s so easy and simple. Serve this and you will impress your friends. And in my opinion even with the cayenne pepper it is not too spicy hot. But that’s me.
I was raised in Indiana, so I leave the beans out and serve this over macaroni or spaghetti. For those whose diet is gluten free, get some brown rice pasta from Trader Joe’s.

    1. 5 stars
      Even better the day after!

Made this for supper last night. Added on YELLOW pepper for a little sweet. Served with a corn muffin and a dollop of sour cream. It was phenomenal and just perfect. Eating for lunch right now. Soooooo Good. This is my new favorite fall/winter recipe

    2. 5 stars
I have used this recipe over and over. I sometimes tweak a few things to my liking. I have always gotten rave reviews on it, no matter what! This recipe is a staple in my household. Thanks for sharing!

    1. 5 stars
You can add whatever you want. I put use black beans and pinto beans instead of kidney beans (a can of each when doubling the recipe) and I cube up a roast rather than using ground beef usually. I consider a recipe like this a starting point and get creative from there.

    2. 5 stars
I am 62 years old and I have never tried Chili before because I always thought yuck, but my husband likes Chili and after reading your recipe I thought why not give it a try. I did not add the red pepper, but I did buy Goya red kidney beans which came in a sauce, that I rinsed off and then drained they gave the Chili a bit of a kick. This recipe was so easy. This is so yummy and my husband agreed!!

    3. 5 stars
I’ve been using this recipe for the past three years or so and it’s unbeatable. I always add a few chipotles in adobo along with some of the sauce and it gives it a nice heat and smokey depth. And because we love our spice, usually top it with fresh or candied jalapeños.

    4. 5 stars
I double the recipe and use 1 can each pinto, cannellini and black beans… use whichever beans you like!

  188. 5 stars
I added 4 garlic cloves and ½ yellow pepper & ½ orange pepper (which I don’t think changed it much from the original). Phenomenal! Served with shredded cheese and a spoon of sour cream.

    1. 5 stars
Fantastic chili recipe! I used 1 tablespoon of sugar, instead of two and felt it was plenty. Also added an additional can of white northern beans. Will definitely make again!

    2. 5 stars
Me and my boyfriend made this recipe and this was the best chili we ever made. It was simple and easy to make and it taste really good. 10 out of 10 highly recommend.

    3. 5 stars
Delicious! Had 2 cans of Rotel diced tomatoes with green chilis, so used instead of diced tomatoes. Also had ground turkey vs. the ground beef on hand. Great seasoning.

  189. 5 stars
My bf LOVES this chili! I’ve made it several times and add the cayenne pepper & jalapeños if I have them on hand for extra heat. I serve it with shredded cheddar cheese, sour cream, and chopped green onions. Always a hit! Thank you for the delicious recipe!

    1. 5 stars
Great chili! Perfect Football Sunday meal. Was so tasty by itself and over macaroni with shredded cheese. Will definitely make again but will leave out added salt next time.

  190. 5 stars
Great recipe!! Almost taste like WENDYS Restaurant. Ive made this recipe @ least 6 times for different occasions and always the same response as that is some awesome chili so I share the link to family and friends. Keep up the great work!

  191. 5 stars
This is THE chili recipe I’ve been looking for! I have tried so many recipes and self-made variations and it never was quite right. Thank you!

  192. 5 stars
Made this recipe exactly as written, but I always add cocoa powder, just a couple tablespoons. This recipe is so good!! I will make it again and again. Than you!

  193. 5 stars
The best chili I have ever made. Recipe said not to strain beef after browning so I didn’t and it adds a ton of flavor. Cut the sugar in half and added a tablespoon of chipotle peppers for heat and smoke. Sooo delish. Will make it again.

    1. 5 stars
I love this chili. Everyone loves it that I cook it for. I’ve made it 10 times or more. I add corn. I use a couple cans of Organic 3 bean from Walmart. Less sauce.

  194. 5 stars
First time making chili from scratch. Pulled this recipe off the internet. Very easy to make and delicious. My wife doesn’t like kidney beans, so substituted black beans for the kidney beans. Worked out great.

      1. 5 stars
Best chili I ever had! I added some chopped bell peppers with the onion. I also add corn when adding beans. Served with a scoop of sour cream, and cojito cheese. Side of corn bread, perfection!

      2. I didn’t, but it was too greasy for me, so I spooned off a lot of it before I went to next steps. I liked it better that way.

  195. 5 stars
Delicious! Thanks for the recipe. I just used water because I was out of beef broth. There is plenty of flavor with all the spices, water works just fine.

    1. 5 stars
This chili is absolutely perfect! I added a 1/2 cup of corn and an extra can of beans to stretch it out. Still amazing! Everyone absolutely loves it!

  196. 5 stars
I have been looking for a good chili recipe for a long time and am so happy to have found it in this recipe. And it is easy! Most recipes I have tried were ok but just a little off one way or another but this one tastes like real chili, the kind they made in the 60’s and 70’s, the kind you could get in places like The Dew Chili Parlor.

      1. 5 stars
Yes, drain the extra grease if you used less than 90/10 pr 93/7. I used 93/7 ground beef so there wasn’t anything to drain. The chili turned out great other than it was a little runny, so I added extra tomato paste and simmered it until the extra liquid dissipated.

      2. I don’t have any beef broth so I am going to try using the lipton beef and onion broth in its place. First time making.

  197. 5 stars
Awesome recipe! I make this all the time. The only thing I’ve modified is that I triple the cayenne, just because I like it spicy 🔥

  198. I never write reviews but this recipe deserved one. I’ve tried several online chili recipes and this is by far the best one I’ve ever made. It was a hit with the family! Definitely a must try! No need to go looking for any other recipe!

  199. Being Puertorican and not brought up with Chilli even though I’ve lived in Texas 50 years , I never took challenge to make Homemade Chilli.
Your recipe was super easy to follow and I got all the ingredients the receipe called for.
It turned out Awesome! I wanted Chilli dogs for Labor Day and I will eat the Chilli by itself, some Tabasco and crackers. Thanks again!!!( I used black beans instead of red)

  200. 5 stars
Savory, hearty flavor, makes a great base . I amp it up with different chilis , or variety of beans. Freezes well too!

  201. 5 stars
This recipe is absolutely amazing. It is so flavorful and I didn’t have to change a single thing. I made it exactly like the recipe says. It is definitely one of my to go meals for the week. It was so easy to make too.

  202. 5 stars
Absolutely delicious. Didn’t put cayenne, and added some frozen corn kernels and some chopped fresh mushrooms. The flavours in this recipe are delicious.

  203. 5 stars
Delish! And so easy to make. My husband came home and said he wasn’t hungry. Then? He managed to polish off a decent sized bowl.

I also made Jalapeño Corn Bread for that extra kick. And, that was a winner also!

    A perfect combination.

This is my new favorite recipe. Can’t wait until winter.

  204. 5 stars
We make this all the time and love it
Question. When doubling up the recipe does the cook times change? I would assume so

  205. 5 stars
LOVE this recipe! Everyone loves it, and it’s so easy! It gets lots of compliments! I always serve it like a chili bar with cornbread, sour cream, green onions, shredded cheddar, avocado, crackers, and Mexican type chips! Yummmmm!

  206. 5 stars
Can we talk about how forgiving and adaptable this recipe is?! I have made it strictly adhering to the ingredients. Fantastic. I have made while missing half the ingredients. Stupendous. I have made it at 3am, drunk, stumbling and slurring, not measuring anything – still amazing. I just made it again on my day off, half working-half doing laundry, sipping an early Vod-Sod, and I think this might be the most amazing version yet (added extra tomato paste and beef broth, Parmesan and sour cream). This is hands down the quickest and most delicious Chili I have ever had. You cannot mess it up. Quit scrolling and make this already!!!

  207. 5 stars
This is the first time I changed my routine chili recipe. This was so easy, and didn’t go overboard with ingredients. Thank you!😌

  208. 5 stars
I cooked dry kidney beans and added an extra cup of water. Everything else was the same. 10/10 would definitely recommend this recipe!

  209. 5 stars
Finally, a “best” chili recipe that is actually the best! I followed the directions as written and watched it quickly disappear to the delight of my friends. Great chili!

  210. 5 stars
This recipe was great on its own but I served leftovers on a baked potato with some cheddar cheese, sour cream and chopped scallions. It was delish

  211. 5 stars
So, I had a family coming over for dinner one night, and I wanted to try something new… (I know, not the best idea 🙂 I had some cornbread on hand, and I wanted to use it up, and you know nothing beats a good old chili and cornbread dinner, right? I personally am not a huge fan of chili, but the family that was coming over likes ground beef, a lot. So, I decided to try this, what could go wrong, right? I was right!!!! They loved, i loved it, my husband loved it, and even my pickiest little girl loved it!! I was so happy; I am definitely going to be using this in the future! Best chili recipe this side of the Mississippi, 100%

  212. 5 stars
This is the best chili ever! It is dark and has depth of flavors. Made it with ground turkey and upped the heat. Going right now into my recipe box and deleting the myriad of other chili recipes! That’s how good this is. Oh and only chopping is 1 onion 🙂

  213. 5 stars
I had to sub chicken broth, left out the sugar but used a can of paste instead of 2 tbsp. It was still awesome!! And very easy!
Next time Id prob use dried beans from scratch to cut out some sodium. And stew my own tomatoes (same reason). And the time after that I might try ground turkey. Add some fresh garlic (w the onion), wortcheshier sauce and add chia seeds at the end just for health. But first I want to try the original (when i buy beef broth). Thank you!!!

  214. 5 stars
A simple, no fail recipe that always provides excellent results. Add a tiny amount of cinnamon (I know it sounds crazy, but trust me, maybe a quarter of a teaspoon)

  215. 5 stars
I omitted the cayenne pepper & this recipe was not spicy at all; my daughter liked it! I like chili spicy, so I added hot sauce. Easy, great recipe; not too spicy.

  216. 5 stars
Yo this gal can cook! I’d give it a 6 star if I could. All her meals are so yummy but super basic with a short prep time. I’d recommend checking all her deliciousness on TikTok for sure! #DEBOMB.COM!!!

  217. 5 stars
This was by far the best chili i have ever eaten and im from south Texas. Im taking all the credit at my house but we know youre the master behind the design. Thanks for making me proud of myself lol.

    1. 5 stars
I was on the search for a chili without using tomato juice. I came across this recipe and made it for supper tonight. We loved it! It has an excellent ratio of spices, especially chili powder and cumin. It’s a nice thick chili. My husband usually adds additional chili powder to his chili but didn’t need it with this. This recipe has been marked as a favorite in my Recipe Keeper. Thanks for a great recipe.

    2. 5 stars
Great recipe, I’ve made and eaten multiple times each time with pleasure. You can’t be disappointed, it is outstanding

  218. I did the chili Sunday it was so awesome and delicious my family loved it. But for me the best part was the easiness of the recipe and the quick time.
    Thank you Daisy
I’ve always been a member of Allrecipe but now I’m trying Wholesome dishes

    1. 5 stars
Tried the recipe all perfect….and great tasting maybe it’s my palate but I most definitely tasted the sugar….so i made savory cornbread to balance it all out….will keep this bookmarked as one of my favs

    2. 5 stars
I agree. This is a keeper. I needed something that would go well with some leftover cornbread and this did the trick. I didn’t want to stop eating lol.

  219. Me and my family love this recipe. This the only one my kids would always tell me to make. Soo much favor!!! With leftovers we make some nachos and chill dogs as well. If you looking for a chili recipe this is it 😁

    1. 5 stars
I don’t know why it bothers me so much… but who eats chili with a fork!!??? Lmaooo! This is a great recipe!! I’ve made it several times now and it is the only chili recipe I use! The only small change I make is I also add black beans! I like the extra fiber and flavor 🙂 Thank you so much for this recipe!

  220. 5 stars
Have to say this IS the tastiest chili I’ve ever had. Plus it uses ingredients you probably already have in your pantry so you can make it in a pinch. It will be my go to chili recipe from now on.

  221. 5 stars
Best chili I’ve ever had!! Husband loved it!! Will for sure be making this again!! Thank you!! 🙂

  222. 5 stars
Absolutely perfect! Normally I follow a recipe for the first time to the letter, but this time I had about 2 lbs Of leftover smoked beef brisket from poker night, so instead of ground beef, I diced up the brisket, and then doubled the recipe. I’ve never made chili before bc my dad is the chili king and I always have him make it for me, even though I’m 37, but I decided to try it. Google directed me here when I searched “best chili recipe” and I’m glad it did! This recipe is amazing. I wouldn’t change a thing, the spice levels are perfect.

  223. 5 stars
I love to cook and have tried several chili recipes and this is by far THE BEST I’ve ever made. I do adjust the sugar a bit, so it is not too sweet. I also make mine with turkey and not ground beef! There is not a person that doesn’t love this chili 🌶!!!

  224. 5 stars
This good. If you have people that don’t like heat, maybe cut down on the chili powder a little bit. Is perfect for me, not so much for the wife and 2.5yo. 5 star for sure though

  225. 5 stars
This is my go to chili recipe. I like to add a can of Pinto beans, fresh garlic and some orange, yellow or red bell pepper. I also use a good hot sauce instead of cayenne. This is a perfect recipe to eat as is, or experiment with to make it your own. Thanks for the great recipes Wholesome Dish!

  226. 5 stars
This is without a doubt the best Chili ever. I make it using the exact ingredients and measurements. The only things I add are drained can of black and white beans.

    1. 5 stars
I did not have beef broth so I used organic chicken broth, no change in the chilli taste. I also added black beans (for the fibre content) It was still very delicious.
I would definitely make this one again!

    2. 5 stars
This is a really good basic chili. I’ve made it several times and I usually make a double batch then freeze the leftovers. The only changes I’ve made are I leave out the sugar as I think it is plenty sweet from the tomatoes. I also use half hamburger and half sausage caue my mom’s recipe calls for that.
I really think this recipe is great as is and also provides a good base that you can adjust and tweak to your own liking. Thank you for sharing.

  227. 5 stars
I grew up eating and then making my grandmother’s chili recipe (beef, onion, tomato soup, chili hot beans, salt and pepper, TEASPOON of chili powder XD). Over the years I started adding to hers and recently my mother commented how tomato paste doesn’t belong in it. So I searched for a classic recipe using it specifically and found this. I just finished making it and I knew the moment I started measuring out the spices it was going to be good!! After my first taste I prayed for forgiveness because I know when I serve this tonight my mom is going to die. May she Rest In Peace.

  228. Chili was easy and basic. Sometimes getting back to basics is the best way to go. And you can use this recipe and add to it and make it your own. Five ⭐’s

  229. 5 stars
Amazing recipe! I added some Cajun and southwest seasoning, along with a can of lentils, green pepper and celery. Highly recommend!!

    1. 5 stars
This was such an easy recipe. I’m not a fan of Cumin so I only added 1/4 teaspoon. It came out great. I’ll definitely be making this again!

    1. 5 stars
Truly the best I have ever tasted. Made this recipe 4 days ago, family raved about it and had to make another batch today!
Thanks for posting and taking your time to enlighten your readers!

  230. 5 stars
I’m pretty sure my fiancé just proposed to me again after eating this chili recipe! Haha I replaced the diced tomatoes for rotel tomatoes since we didn’t have cayenne pepper and this turned out AMAZING! Will be making it more often now.

  231. 5 stars
Makes a really good batch of chili! I’m super happy with this recipe and will definitely be making it again.

  232. 5 stars
This is a great recipe. I have to admit I’ve tried a couple of substitutes. I didn’t have any ground beef so, I used leftover pot rost and the second time I used cubed leftover pork tenderloin and I’ve also used chopped Hatch Green Chile’s. I also omitted the sugar. Both times it was fantastic and my husband loved it.

  233. 5 stars
Always turns out tasty and easy to follow instructions. This is my go to recipe whenever I am making chilli . 😋

  234. 5 stars
Great basic chili. I left out the sugar as it was sweet enough from the tomatoes. If I made a huge batch to feed a crowd I would leave out the cayenne and put some hot sauce on the side. I wouldn’t say this is spicy but some in my circle cannot take any heat.
All in all I thought this recipe is a definite keeper.

    1. 5 stars
I make this quite often for our rescue squad crews. By trip.ing the recipe, I always have enough for everyone and usually some for the next day. Everyone loves it. Leaving out the cayenne makes it good for all. Available toppings include sour cream, cheese, chopped onions, and hot sauce.

    2. I am hosting a Block Party & I was wondering if this can be done in a slow cooker or at least kept warm in there so that I could put the slow cooker on the table.

      1. I’ve made this in a slow cooker and it is equally as tasty, the longer it cooks the more the flavor develops. I recommend still browning the meat first though.

  235. 5 stars
I made this recipe exactly as the instructions are including the cayenne. I only made one addition by adding a can of pinto beans as well as the kidney beans as stated in the recipe because my family loves beans. It turned out perfectly. We love spice and it satisfied. This is my new chili recipe go to. Thank you so much for sharing!

  236. 5 stars
My go to Chile recipe. I’ve made this a few times. I do use pinto beans that I cook in my crockpot and it just takes it to the next level❣️

  237. Looks good but How much is a serving? A cup? Two cups? 1/6 of the recipe is no help in planning if I’d like to make this or how much

  238. 5 stars
Love this recipe! Been using it for two years now but I’m starting to count calories. What’s the serving size? Sorry if I’ve overlooked it.

  239. 5 stars
    Love this recipe!!!
First time I made Chili in my life and it came out PERFECT. I was so impressed. I followed directions and was surpised how well it came out. My Husband likes chili spicy so if you make it and like it spicy, just bump up the the spicies a bit – it will still come out perfect for you. SO EASY and Fast to make. Taste even better the next day.
    Highly Recommended!
    Thank You

  240. 5 stars
Loved it! So easy! Next time I will cut the sugar to one tablespoon, I found it a little too sweet for my taste but others didn’t complain. Also tried without the cayenne because at the end, before putting the cayenne I tasted and was Spice enough for me and everyone loved.

  241. 5 stars
The best chili recipe. I live in Louisiana where flavor is everything and this recipe has got it all! Definitely my families favorite! Great on hot dogs too! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

  242. 5 stars
This the best chili recipe I have ever made. It’s full of flavor spiciness aroma and it’s very addictive.
Thanks for sharing this wonderful recipe

  243. 4 stars
Great recipe for a basic chili. I agree with previous comments that say the sugar is not needed at all. Having read what other people had said about the sugar before I started, I decided not to add any sugar until I tasted at the very end and it was perfect without it. I also added a green bell pepper, a few cloves of fresh garlic and a jalapeno (instead of cayenne), all added in after the beef was browned and cooked for a few minutes. Delicious!

  244. 5 stars
This is the best chili ever. I like to add jalapeños and sriracha and use honey instead of sugar and it tastes amazing. I also used a mixture of ground beef and spicy Italian sausage once and it was a great addition. I always freeze this and take it camping for the perfect dinner. Thank you!!!

  245. 5 stars
I tweaked this recipe a little bit to fit my liking more. This is *the* best base recipe ever though!

I added half the amount of broth
    No sugar
I added super hot cayenne pepper seasoning

The rest of the recipe I followed exactly like shown and its my go-to. So good!

  246. 5 stars
I’m not one to leave a comment but I needed to because I’ve been using this recipe for the better half of 2 years for my base chili and I’ve never been disappointed. I do some change up with the meet option, use rótele instead of tomatoes, less sugar or brown sugar, add jalapeños, green peppers, corn, serve over rice or as is! I just adore this recipe and wanted other to know how great it is!

  247. 4 stars
I could tell that the base of this recipe was really good and delicious. I really enjoyed the flavor, but I found the amount of sugar to be overwhelming for my taste. I’m a savory > sweet kind of person, but even with savory being my preference, I’ve never had a chili that was quite as sweet as this one. I am making this recipe again this week, and I will likely use half a tablespoon of sugar – just enough to counteract the acidity of all the canned tomato.

  248. 3 stars
I used this recipe because it looked easy enough. I did use a larger can of tomato sauce. Like previous comments, the sugar does not belong. It has the right heat, but the sugar ruined it. Will try again without sugar.

    1. 5 stars
I made this chili 3 times now and never did put the sugar in as called for in the recipe. I minimize my family’s sugar use as a general rule. I also reduced the salt. It tasted great without sugar and with less salt.

  249. 5 stars
Honestly this is the only chili recipe I use now. I do experiment sometimes but this is always my base.

  250. 5 stars
Wanted to learn how to make chilli so I tried a bunch of recipes, combinations and permutations. This is my family’s favourite recipe. I add other beans as well. They cayenne is a bit too spicy for them but they like a little bit. Thank you for posting this!

    1. 4 stars
I only did half the sugar and it is still way too sweet. Other than that it is a good recipe. I made some honey cornbread to go alongside it.

  251. Sorry but this recipe called for too much sugar unfortunately my family didn’t enjoy it. I may make it again but omit the sugar

    1. 5 stars
This will be my go to chili recipe from now on. Just the way we like our chili! Made it exactly as directed (including all the sugar and cayenne) except I had no tomato sauce, so added two more TBLS tomato paste and an extra 1/2 cup of water. Next time I’ll make sure I have tomato sauce, but excellent with the minor substitution anyway.

    2. 5 stars
Thanks for this recipe! I followed pretty much exactly, except used half the amount of sugar.
This was very easy to make and delicious. Before I was using premade chili kits and they were bland, but from now on I’m making it like this!

  252. 5 stars
A great base for a chili recipe – I recommend it for anyone thinking – I am in the mood for chili. You can eat this as written or endlessly riff on it. Thank you for the recipe. I made the basic recipe and dumped all the leftovers from the fridge in it and poured on killer Thai bird chilies. But it’s the base that brings it all together.

I will definitely use this again.

  253. 5 stars
Really good recipe that’s simple too! I used only one tbsp of sugar and almost could’ve gone with less. Will be making again

This recipe was seasoned perfectly, I added 1/2 cup extra of the broth, and it had the best texture.

Key is to use 93%or lower fat beef to help reduce the oil, however, it still tasted delicious with higher fat beef.

This is THE BEST Chili ever! I love to cook and have experimented with many chili recipes. This one has simple ingredients with simple instructions to follow. I make it exactly as written in the recipe and we absolutely LOVE IT! It is so flavorful and satisfying to eat. The high temp today in Texas was 94 degrees and I am making this chili for dinner… that’s how good it is. 🙂 I have made this chili many times and it always comes together perfectly.

It was delicious! I added ketchup instead of tomato paste as I was out so it had a nice sweet /spicy tang.

OMG, delicious! I used the recipe with no changes and its a winner in our house. I will make a double batch next time so that some can be frozen for another meal. I have been making chili for over 40 years and this is the 1st time I have written a review, so it must be good! Thanks for sharing this recipe with us, its a keeper!

I make this at least once a month, but I tweaked it by adding lots more beans–an extra can of black beans, garbanzo beans, and pinto beans each, as I am trying to reduce my meat intake. Everyone who I have try it loves it. Thank you for sharing it.

  259. The seasoning is perfect! I was short on regular chili powder and used Aleppo instead. Easy and delicious! I will make this again!

  260. I love this chili recipe. I use the optional cayenne and I add corn to mine, and it is delicious. I love how fast and easy it is, too. Thank you for sharing.

Super glad I found this recipe. It was easy to follow and it turned out great. Amazingly enough we had just about every ingredient necessary. The only missing ingredients were the ground cumin and tomato sauce. I used ground comino instead and that worked perfectly. I also used an extra tablespoon of tomato paste to make up for the lack of tomato sauce. And we used a sugar substitute, but hey it turned out waaaay better than I could have hoped! I’m actually inclined to curse with how good this turned out. 5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ worthy!

This has become my only chili recipe – I’ve made it at least a dozen times. Only addition I make is a some chopped up celery, just because my Grandma always did. But this recipe far superior to any others I’ve ever tried (including Grandma’s). This turns out fabulous every time! Thank you so much for sharing with us all!!

Amazing. Had to stop myself from a second helping. I’m dairy allergic so this was a treat. Made homemade cornbread to have with the chilli. Perfect meal for a cold and rainy May day.

First time making chili and I have to say this recipe is delicious!!! I used 8oz of tomato paste instead of the tomato sauce and added 1 cup of water. I also added 2 extra cans of beans because we love beans in this house!

Definitely my go to recipe for chili. I may tweak a little. Just because. :). I use brown sugar and add a little Worcestershire. Chop up peppers and onions , use a mix of beans, ( cannoli kidney and black) to make it my own. PT

I’ve made a lot of different chili recipes but this is my favorite. And it’s so easy. Here’s what I did differently. I was out of tomato paste so omitted, my husband dislikes cumin so I only used 1 Tbsp instead of 2, and I added one can of drained pinto beans in addition to kidney beans. Fantastic and easy!

Excellent as is. I used the cayenne and it has just enough bite. Just adults so heat is no concern. Best chili I’ve ever made, according to my two grown grandsons.
