I make this simple hummus without tahini all the time.  I absolutely love hummus, and typically have some stocked in my refrigerator.  I’ve tried just about every fancy variety and flavor combination of hummus that there is.  At some point I started wondering, why is this little tub of bean dip so expensive?  I mean come on, it’s mostly just beans, which cost next to nothing.  So, I started making my own.

Not only is it cheaper to make your own hummus, but you control the quality of ingredients that go into it.  So, there are no weird preservatives or fillers in your dip.

To make this dip, add garbanzo beans, olive oil, lemon juice, garlic, cumin, salt, and a little bit of water to a food processor.  Then, blend until smooth.  That’s it!  It really is simple.  Serve it up with your favorite dippers, like whole grain crackers, chopped veggies, or tortilla chips.

Why skip out on the tahini?  Well, you certainly don’t have to.  I just find that tahini is one of those ingredients that I don’t always have on hand.  And, it’s by far the most expensive ingredient in hummus.

Tahini is a paste made out of sesame seeds.  It kind of reminds me of sesame flavored peanut butter.  I like it.  And, I like hummus that has tahini in it.  I just don’t find it necessary.  So if I don’t have it, which I often don’t, this is my go-to recipe.

Incredibly easy to make! Love that it is sesame free and tastes absolutely delicious without. I did add about a tsp. of smoked paprika for extra flavor and it is so good. Will be my go to hummus recipe from now on. I’m going to try all sorts of variations with this “base” recipe. No more overpriced hummus for me! Try it, if you love hummus- can’t go wrong!

This is my go to hummus. Everyone loves it. It’s absolutely delicious and so easy to make. I rehydrate Chick peas and cook them up to make this. Yummy

This recipe was so good. It tasted just like the stuff I can buy at the store. I used this hummus to make sandwiches and to dip veggies in.

I do not own a food processor so I mashed my chickpeas by hand with a potato masher. Not all the chickpeas mashed but it made it a nice texture and the taste was unaffected.

Super simple recipe to make. Will make again soon.

This really is delicious and do easy to make! Being able to taste the extra virgin olive oil makes such a difference. I’ve already made it a second time.

First time I have made hummus and it turned out as good as the $8 USD hummus in the store. I topped with roasted garlic and red pepper. Delicious!

Thank you very much. I have really been looking for a non-tahini recipe. It’s far to expensive and if you don’t use it all up once you’ve opened the jar you have to throw it. Such a waste. This is so tasty, well textured and downright great.

I made this today but added 20 Kalamata Olives. It was delicious will never buy store bought again. I will try roasted red peppers instead of the olives next time as someone suggested. Thanks for this recipe!!!

Great recipe! I don’t really like tahini, but add a little sesame oil for some extra umami. What is the green stuff that is sprinkled on at the end of the the video and also shown in the picture, parsley?
