The Best Easy Chocolate Chip Cookies Recipe – An easy chocolate chip cookie recipe made in minutes. These are the best homemade chocolate chip cookies ever!

1 of the best chocolate chip cookies cooling on a rack

There’s nothing better than chocolate chip cookies from scratch!  A warm, fresh chocolate chip cookie with a big glass of milk is comfort food at it’s finest.

I’ve tried a lot of chocolate chip cookie recipes over the years.  I keep finding that many of the recipes have at least one long wait time.  They require you to either wait a couple of hours to bring the butter and eggs to room temperature, or wait for the dough to chill in the refrigerator for an hour.  Sometimes both.

I’m too impatient! 🙂  I want to be able to relax on my couch and suddenly decide I need some homemade, soft, and chewy chocolate chip cookies.  Then, have them baking in the oven in just a few minutes!

Servings 39 cookies
Calories 164 kcal

Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter -melted*
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 1/2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups (a 12 oz. bag) semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
  • In a large bowl, add the melted butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar. Whisk until well combined.
  • Add the eggs and vanilla. Whisk until smooth.
  • Add the flour, baking soda, and salt. Stir until no dry flour remains.
  • Add the chocolate chips. Stir until well incorporated.
  • Scoop out 1 ½ tablespoon size balls (a #40 scoop) of the batter on a baking sheet, leaving 2 inches between each cookie. SIZE MATTERS.**
  • Bake for 10 minutes. The center should be soft and the edges should barely be golden. DO NOT OVER BAKE.
  • Cool 3-4 minutes on the cookie sheet. Then transfer to a cooling rack to cool completely.

Notes

*I melt the butter in the large microwave safe mixing bowl that I make the cookie dough in so it truly stays a one bowl recipe.
**The cook time is based on using 1 ½ level tablespoons (from a #40 scoop) of dough in the shape of a scoop (or ball) for each cookie. If the amount of dough is different, the baking time will be off. Use a #40 scoop and scrape it up the side of the bowl to easily level off the dough. Or, use 1 ½ level tablespoons of dough and roll the dough into a ball.
I highly recommend using a #40 scoop for this.  It makes the cookie making process so fast and easy.

I’ve made this recipe several times and it’s always a hit. I’ve substituted triple filtered coconut oil for the butter for those who need that and it still tastes amazing!

  2. 5 stars
This is the best cookies I have ever tasted. Pure heaven. The only thing I noticed was before I baked it, it was really chunky and not liquidy at all like in your videos. It may just be the product I use, cause I am pretty sure I did everything right.

  3. 5 stars
Absolutely delicious. Followed recipe exactly. Nice fat, cookies, soft in the middle, a little crisp around the edges. Wanted to post a photo, but no option.

Thanks, Amanda for this keeper chocolate chip cookie recipe!🍪

    1. I would like to try this recipe but I live at elevation of 8500 feet and every cookie I try to make does not come out well. Can you give me the adjusted recipe for this elevation.

  4. 5 stars
This is a fantastic, EASY recipe! Easily the tastiest one I’ve ever had. Thank you! Trust her on the scoop size (I did)- and your cookies will be perfect!!!

  5. 5 stars
This is the recipe I have been using for years and others ask me to share it with them. These are seriously amazing cookies and easy to quickly make!

  6. 5 stars
I followed the recipe exactly as written but the cookies are falling and come out super thin. They are still chewy and crisp on the edge but so thin! What am I doing wrong?

  7. 5 stars
Best and easiest chocolate chip cookies in the world, all my grandchildren and everyone else loves them. Thank you

  8. 5 stars
Was craving soft chewy cookies and had 3 packs of chocolate chips in the pantry. Very easy to make and they taste absolutely great. They look undercooked after 10 minutes but don’t be fooled as they will continue to bake. Delicious.

  9. 5 stars
Just made these for the first time but it sure won’t be the last. I love these. They were easy to make. I had all the ingredients on hand. I bake them for 12 mins and cooled for 4 mins before removing them from the pan and they were perfect. Thanks for sharing.

  10. 5 stars
I have tried many recipes even taken cookie classes. But this is by far the best and easy recipe for chocolate chip cookies. My daughter and I followed all the instructions to the letter. I had to increase my oven time to 20 min more but that’s it. The cookies came out SO good. Thank you for sharing this wonderful recipe.

    1. I meant to write 2 min more, not 20 🙂 It was a typo. My oven had heating issues at that time. Now it is fixed and I bake for only the required 10min. The cookies come out perfect every time and stay soft even when stored for days. Love the recipes from this site.

  11. 5 stars
Best cookies ever! My 2 year old grandson loves to help me make these and I like that he can hand mix it all up in one large bowl! We make these at least once a month!

  12. Thank you for the recipe. It was my first time making cookies from scratch. They were wonderful.

Can I freeze the extra cookie dough?

  13. if you want a unique flavor brown the butter first but be careful it is not burnt. and add to chocolate chip cookie dough before baking….

I really wanted cookies tonight and I didn’t have soft butter and didn’t want to deal with the mixer. I googled and came across this recipe. It came out perfect! I added a box of jello pudding mix because my favorite recipe uses it and I love the effect. Worked well. Will definitely make again!!

  15. 5 stars
This recipe was fast and easy, and very delicious. The cookies come out just as it described. Will definitely be making these again.

  16. 5 stars
Did this recipe change? I’ve been using 3/4 brown sugar and 1 cup granulated sugar lol. Still tastes amazing both ways! Love it! They don’t last long hehe

  17. 5 stars
Very delicious and easy clean up. I added 1-1/2 tsp. of expresso powder and chopped pecans to my cookies also.

  18. 5 stars
Totally the way I used to make cookies growing up! Who wanted to wait to chill the dough?! Great recipe!

  19. These were so easy and delicious! I made a half batch and did two trays with nine cookies each. I did reduce the sugar by a third (so 1/3 C brown sugar and 1/4 C white sugar for my half batch) and only did 140g of chocolate chips. I put the dough in the freezer for about 15 minutes before shaping into balls, and then put each tray in the freezer another five minutes before baking. This kept the cookies from spreading and they turned out perfectly! Perfectly sweet and I sprinkled them with a bit of sea salt on top, so good. I love the slightly crispy edges with the soft gooey middle. It only took 9 minutes for my cookies. I will definitely be using this recipe for a quick batch of cookies after dinner!

OMG – when you say the BEST easy chocolate chip cookie recipe – you mean it… Great easy recipe. Thank you!!

  21. 5 stars
I made them today! They were delicious 😋 😍! I made them a little smaller than what they should be and I did put a few on the side without chocolate chips for my mom, she loved it too!

  22. 5 stars
Just made my first batch of these delicious cookies 😋 and they’re all gone already.. my family loves them .. Making more right now

  23. Simply amazing. Cookie has great flavor and texture. I used dark chocolate, semi-sweet and Bailey’s Irish Creme chips – oh my! I will be keeping this recipe in use often. Thank you.

  24. 5 stars
Im all about easy and delicious. These were simple and turned out fabulous. Will always be my go to for chocolate chip cookies. thank you for doing all the hard work and telling me the secret.

  25. 5 stars
I am partial to my own chocolate chip cookie, which requires my stand mixer, and making and freezing dough balls before baking. I was truly shocked at how good these are….caramelly from the melted butter, great sugar ratio (not too sweet), chewy & crunchy, and NO MIXER! New favorite!

  26. This is an okay recipe, but not the best chocolate chip cookie I’ve ever made/had. Unfortunately, I lost my favorite recipe for this classic cookie. This one will be made until/unless I find my favorite.

    1. The BEST chocolate chip cookies EVER
Even GF. Thank you soooooo much!!!!😊😄🍪🍪👍👍👍👍❤️💛💚💙💜

  27. My daughter made these cookies. Awesome. I sent the recipe to my best friend – she loved them. And tonight, I made them myself. I am BAKING CHALLENGED! Great at savory and bad at baking. They came out perfectly. So much better than any other chocolate chip recipe I’ve ever used. This is the ONLY choc chip cookie recipe I will ever use again. They are easy and absolute perfection.

  28. Way to much butter! Had to add 1/2 C more flour. But very good tasting recipe. I made 3 batches and froze the rest.

  29. 5 stars
As good as the famous hotel cookies. I cannot believe how good they are…WOW!! n Many thx.
Loved not having to cream the shortening. Used Criso and butter.

    1. 5 stars
Made these last night for me and my boys. They are delicious! The perfect amount of soft and crispy.
I used coconut oil instead of butter. Next time I will probably do 1/2 coconut oil and 1/2 butter.

    2. Sorry I’m later, but if you were still wondering… a good rule is half the amount of chocolate chips. (For 2 cups chocolate chips, use 1 cup of nuts) 🙂

  30. 5 stars
Didn’t have chocolate chips so i made it without it, was delicious
I added a bit of coffee to one of the batches and cocoa to the other one.
    Thank you

  31. 5 stars
This recipe is everything it claims: quick, easy and DELICIOUS. Honestly, I think it’s the best chocolate chip cookie I’ve ever eaten.
We bake for 9 minutes instead of 10, and they come out of the oven looking just like the ones in the video. 😉

  32. 5 stars
Like another reviewer, my batter came out a little runny. Next time, I’ll add a half cup of flour or so. Even so, these cookies turned out terrific and will be my go to recipe!!! Can I cut the sugar down a little?
Thank you so much for sharing!! I just wish I wasn’t working from home so I could share them with my co-workers.

  33. 5 stars
Very good cookies! And did I mention easy? The texture was perfect. Just the right amount of chewy. Like the recipe says, do not over bake. Will definitely make these again!

  34. I don’t often write reviews. There are so many chocolate chip cookie recipes out there. But these are easy….and yes, delicious! I love the soft, but chewy texture. Perfect! Do not over bake. Very easy to mix together! Will make these again!!

  35. 5 stars
Thank you so much for sharing this chocolate chip cookie recipe. I have been looking for one and this is the easiest, simplest and the BEST!!!! I have made this so many times already. Kids love it, my friends love it, I cannot stop eating it!! Even the dough is delicious!! Thanks again. I have found my forever chocolate cookie recipe. Much love. Keep baking!!! God bless to you!

  36. 5 stars
Perfect and easy recipe. Cookies are slightly crisp on bottom and chewy in the middle. These are the cookies I remember from childhood.

  37. Mark my words, I am an awful baker, nothing ever turns out right, I blame it on the oven, but it’s just me. So I can honestly say I was stunned—and so was my family—that this truly perfect cookie was made by ME!! My flour & brown sugar were even a little expired (since I’d given up on baking, but they still turned out amazing! Thank you for the awesome recipe!! If these can turn out delicious for me, they absolutely will for you, too! Not that I’m ready to become a full-time baker or anything, but still… Give these a try, you’ll be glad you did!

  38. I made these twice, the first time normally and they were amazing, but the second time I accidentally added only half the butter (130g roughly) and they turned out WAY better, seriously addicting. the only problem is that they take longer to bake, roughly 15-20 min.

  39. 5 stars
I have made over 100 cookies using this recipe and they always turn out amazing! Thank you for sharing!

  40. 5 stars
This recipe is very easy and the cookies come out perfect! The inside of the cookie was soft and chewy, the outside was a little crunchy. Yummy. This will be my go to recipe from now on. Thank you!

  41. 5 stars
This is the PERFECT chocolate chip cookie recipe! I halved the ingredients to make a smaller batch. Absolutely delicious. I was nervous about the ten minute bake time (I initially thought it would be too short) but it was perfect. Thanks for sharing this recipe with us!!!

  42. 5 stars
I made these cookies! They came out big & perfect@ I even teased my mom with one! Or maybe two.😉
PS if you do want them a little cruncher let the sit in the oven like two extra minutes. But not to long. Unless you want to try it that way. Good luck & yummy to me & my mom!

  43. 5 stars
Such a simple recipe and easy to make. Had to cut a couple corners and used jumbo eggs and baking powder and came out looking like a sheet cake and burnt black to ashes. After cutting off the burnt edges, the salvaged bits tasted great!

  44. 5 stars
I just got finished making these cookies and I have to say I was amazed! If you bake a lot like I do for hungry grandkids you know that saving time is everything. I can not get over how easy this recipe is! No mixer! No chilling! No waiting for butter to soften! Thank you so much for this recipe! I will never use another recipe again! Fantastic!

  45. I followed this recipe exactly and they turned out horrible. The batter was more liquidy than most cookie recipes I’ve made before and they were flat and melted together in the oven.

    1. 5 stars
I made these cookies and they were AWESOME! I made six of them and froze the rest of the dough so I could make them again! 6/5

  46. 5 stars
I made these cookies last night with the help of my 9 year old. My son said “even the dough is good”.. The most easy and simple recipe. The cookies were amazing!!!!! I love the buttery taste as well as the chocolate chip. My husband even said they were great with his coffee. Thanks for sharing and these will continue to be a “must have” in our household.

    1. 5 stars
I read this comment before I made these and it was a selling point, big fans of cookie dough in this house. Sebrina’s son is absolutely right.. I had to excuse myself from the kitchen between sheets to keep from eating up all the dough!

  47. 5 stars
I have made these several times with this recipe, and they have come out perfect every time. So simple and so easy. Thank you for the best chocolate chip cookie recipe!

  48. 5 stars
Made these with the 3 year old I babysit, turned out pretty good! Not sure if I missed a step or an ingredient but the dough was pretty sticky and runny. It ended up delicious and a great opportunity for a “might look different but still good inside” lesson. I’m sure we will make these again, it was a perfect way to spend the rainy day inside!

  49. 5 stars
Made these this morning…..they are delicious and so easy. No waiting for butter to soften. will definitely make again.

  50. This is my first time making any cookies and i went ambitious making cookies from scratch. To my surprise the cookies came out so delicious and good looking! My daughter said they are the best she has ever had. Thank you so much. I followed the recipe exactly and my cookies were done to prefection exactly at 10 mins.

  51. 5 stars
Love this recipe! Super simple instructions and made in one bowl. Never heard that “size matters” when it comes to baking cookies but, after purchasing my first #40 scoop, I could not agree more. Genius! Thanks for sharing such a great recipe with us. I am buying #40 scoops and printing this recipe off for friends to give at Christmas. Everyone I’ve made this for raves about the cookies. The only thing I added was additional chocolate chips — I put in 3 cups or more (at my son’s request). The best ever!

  52. 5 stars
Delicious! Made them this morning with my toddler. We had loads of fun. We brought them to some of the ladies at my office and were an instant hit. My oven took 11 minutes, middle rack, but I use silicon baking mats so that might have made a slight difference.

  53. 5 stars
Just made these and I want to say THANK YOU for this super simple recipe!! Super quick to make and bake! Not only was it delicious but it was great to not have to use a mixer because it was really easy to mix with the whisk and spatula! 😀 Can’t wait for my 5 year old to make these for Santa 😛

  54. 5 stars
I love this recipe I’ve made it several times and it is so good! This time I added 2 tsp of cinnamon as well and it really sent them over the top. It didn’t change the recipe or the cook time either!

  55. 5 stars
These are delicious. I used half wheat flour and half AP flour. I also lined cookie sheets and sprayed with cooking spray. Oddly enough approximately 9 mins is what it took if I went to 10 mins they burned. At 9 mins took them out let them rest for a min then racks to cool.

These are really really good. Thank you!

  56. 5 stars
Made these cookies last night and they came out perfect! Thank you for the best quick recipe I have used in a long time!

  57. 5 stars
I love these cookies and have made them several times with no problems… however, the last two times I have made them, they spread out on the pan too much. I don’t understand what I am doing wrong? The taste is great still, but it looks like one ginormous cookie instead of several fluffy cookies. Any suggestions?

  58. 5 stars
Literally best (and easiest) chocolate chip cookies I’ve ever made! Live in high altitude in Colorado – no need to adjust any ingredients or oven temp. That is unusual. These cookies are magic!

  59. 5 stars
Great same day mix and bake cookie recipe. I added some cinnamon, but that’s just a personal preference. Adds an extra layer to the cookie. It would have been good without it too!

  60. 5 stars
Me and my almost 2 y/o son made these together tonight! Not sure why, but every time I make cookies they turn out awful! These turned out SO GOOOD! He’s walking around going “yummmm, mmmmm” 😂book marked this and hope they turn out as good next time!!

  61. 5 stars
I MADE THESE TODAY AND THEY ARE DELICIOUS. IF I WANT TO MAKE THEM LARGER IN SIZE TO BE USED FOR ICE CREAM SANDWICHES, HOW LOW WOULD THE COOKING BE AND WHAT SIZE SCOOP WOULD YOU RECOMMEND?

  62. 5 stars
Quick, easy, DELICIOUS! I always double. I often used dark chocolate chips, and when using chocolate chips, I add a couple of tbsp. of espresso powder. I have also substituted 20% (1 cup for my doubled recipe; 1/2 cup as written) oat, almond, hazelnut, or pecan flour. I’ve tried other extracts, and other flavor chips (butterscotch, peanut butter, Andes Candies Crumbles) with excellent results. Toasted macadamia nuts and coconut, with dark chocolate chips are my FAVORITE! This has become my go-to cookie base!

  63. 4 stars
I’ve made these twice and they are very good. I love the buttery flavor. However, neither time did mine turn out fluffy.

  64. Hi
These were really good cookies, the only thing is, I didn’t think they tasted like chocolate chip cookies. The only thing we did different was we used milk chocolate chips instead of semi-sweet. the cookies tasted like chocolate chip toffee cookies for some reason. They also turned out very flat, but they were chewy! They are really tasty and we will likely make them again, they just don’t taste like traditional chocolate chip cookies.

    1. Umm, maybe if you used semi-sweet chocolate chips like the recipe calls for, you’d come out with the “traditional” chocolate cookie flavor you’re looking for!? Funny how following the recipe really can make all the difference in the outcome. Who’da think it?

  65. 5 stars
I make chocolate chip cookies from different recipes because they just don’t empress me after im done cooking those cookies, But this will be the one i keep all my family and I are in LOVE with these the recipe is easy and oh so good!!!!! I made a little change iwas out of brown sugar so i had to add 2 tablespoons of molasses to each cup of sugar to make brown sugar

  66. 5 stars
The best easy chocolate chip cookies recipe ever!!! Look nowhere else, try this recipe is easy, quick and delicious!

  67. 5 stars
This recipie is amaaazing. I just added a mixture of walnuts+semisweet+white chocolate and it turned out great. Thanx for sharing the recipie

  68. 5 stars
I’m not much of a baker and I definitely can’t cook, so I think it says something that I’ve made these 3 times now and always get great reactions! I shared my latest batch with a cookie enthusiast friend who said it was in his top 3 best chocolate chip cookies 🙂
I think the trick is not letting the thickness of the dough discourage you from adding all the flour at the end. These always turn out thick and fluffy and chewy, and I think it’s the flour. At the end of it, after the two cups of flour, it gets really thick and it almost seems like you can skip the last half cup, but I’d just trust the recipe because they turn out great every time.
I add maybe 1/3 of the chocolate chips it asks for though! And I’m pretty sure I make my cookies bigger than it suggests, so my cooking times vary a bit.

  69. I made these. The taste and texture us awesome but how i do stop them from sticking to the pan. Where i have to destroy them just to get them out the pan.

    1. Oh wow! I’m surprised. My cookies always slide right off the cookie sheet because there is so much butter in them. 🙂 But, if you’re having a problem with cookies sticking to your cookie sheets, line the cookie sheets with parchment paper before you add your cookie dough.

      1. The best way to remove cookies is to let them cool a couple minutes then they can easily be removed without sticking.

    2. You can use oil spray, I always use it even on non sticking cookie sheet. Or spread some cooking oil then dust it with some flour, remove them with your hand not with water.

  70. Could you use dark brown sugar rather than running to the store that’s what I’ve got?

    1. Yes. Dark brown sugar would be a good substitute for the light brown sugar in this recipe. You will still end up with a nice soft chewy center with a slightly crisp edge.
