There’s nothing better than chocolate chip cookies from scratch!  A warm, fresh chocolate chip cookie with a big glass of milk is comfort food at it’s finest.

I’ve tried a lot of chocolate chip cookie recipes over the years.  I keep finding that many of the recipes have at least one long wait time.  They require you to either wait a couple of hours to bring the butter and eggs to room temperature, or wait for the dough to chill in the refrigerator for an hour.  Sometimes both.

I’m too impatient! 🙂  I want to be able to relax on my couch and suddenly decide I need some homemade, soft, and chewy chocolate chip cookies.  Then, have them baking in the oven in just a few minutes!

The Best Easy Chocolate Chip Cookies Recipe - An easy chocolate chip cookie recipe made in minutes. These are the best homemade chocolate chip cookies ever!

  • 1 cup unsalted butter -melted*
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 1/2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups (a 12 oz. bag) semi-sweet chocolate chips


  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
  • In a large bowl, add the melted butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar. Whisk until well combined.
  • Add the eggs and vanilla. Whisk until smooth.
  • Add the flour, baking soda, and salt. Stir until no dry flour remains.
  • Add the chocolate chips. Stir until well incorporated.
  • Scoop out 1 ½ tablespoon size balls (a #40 scoop) of the batter on a baking sheet, leaving 2 inches between each cookie. SIZE MATTERS.**
  • Bake for 10 minutes. The center should be soft and the edges should barely be golden. DO NOT OVER BAKE.
  • Cool 3-4 minutes on the cookie sheet. Then transfer to a cooling rack to cool completely.


*I melt the butter in the large microwave safe mixing bowl that I make the cookie dough in so it truly stays a one bowl recipe.
**The cook time is based on using 1 ½ level tablespoons (from a #40 scoop) of dough in the shape of a scoop (or ball) for each cookie. If the amount of dough is different, the baking time will be off. Use a #40 scoop and scrape it up the side of the bowl to easily level off the dough. Or, use 1 ½ level tablespoons of dough and roll the dough into a ball.
I highly recommend using a #40 scoop for this.  It makes the cookie making process so fast and easy.

    This is the best cookies I have ever tasted. Pure heaven. The only thing I noticed was before I baked it, it was really chunky and not liquidy at all like in your videos. It may just be the product I use, cause I am pretty sure I did everything right.

    Was craving soft chewy cookies and had 3 packs of chocolate chips in the pantry. Very easy to make and they taste absolutely great. They look undercooked after 10 minutes but don’t be fooled as they will continue to bake. Delicious.

    I have tried many recipes even taken cookie classes. But this is by far the best and easy recipe for chocolate chip cookies. My daughter and I followed all the instructions to the letter. I had to increase my oven time to 20 min more but that’s it. The cookies came out SO good. Thank you for sharing this wonderful recipe.

    1. I meant to write 2 min more, not 20 🙂 It was a typo. My oven had heating issues at that time. Now it is fixed and I bake for only the required 10min. The cookies come out perfect every time and stay soft even when stored for days. Love the recipes from this site.

    I really wanted cookies tonight and I didn’t have soft butter and didn’t want to deal with the mixer. I googled and came across this recipe. It came out perfect!   18. These were so easy and delicious! I made a half batch and did two trays with nine cookies each. I did reduce the sugar by a third (so 1/3 C brown sugar and 1/4 C white sugar for my half batch) and only did 140g of chocolate chips. I put the dough in the freezer for about 15 minutes before shaping into balls, and then put each tray in the freezer another five minutes before baking. This kept the cookies from spreading and they turned out perfectly! Perfectly sweet and I sprinkled them with a bit of sea salt on top, so good. I love the slightly crispy edges with the soft gooey middle. It only took 9 minutes for my cookies. I will definitely be using this recipe for a quick batch of cookies after dinner!

    I am partial to my own chocolate chip cookie, which requires my stand mixer, and making and freezing dough balls before baking. I was truly shocked at how good these are….caramelly from the melted butter, great sugar ratio (not too sweet), chewy & crunchy, and NO MIXER! New favorite!

      Made these last night for me and my boys. They are delicious! The perfect amount of soft and crispy.
      I used coconut oil instead of butter. Next time I will probably do 1/2 coconut oil and 1/2 butter.

    This recipe is everything it claims: quick, easy and DELICIOUS. Honestly, I think it’s the best chocolate chip cookie I’ve ever eaten.
    We bake for 9 minutes instead of 10, and they come out of the oven looking just like the ones in the video. 😉

So I can honestly say I was stunned—and so was my family—that this truly perfect cookie was made by ME!! My flour & brown sugar were even a little expired (since I’d given up on baking, but they still turned out amazing! Thank you for the awesome recipe!!   37. I made these twice, the first time normally and they were amazing, but the second time I accidentally added only half the butter (130g roughly) and they turned out WAY better, seriously addicting. the only problem is that they take longer to bake, roughly 15-20 min.

    Such a simple recipe and easy to make. Had to cut a couple corners and used jumbo eggs and baking powder and came out looking like a sheet cake and burnt black to ashes. After cutting off the burnt edges, the salvaged bits tasted great!

    Made these with the 3 year old I babysit, turned out pretty good! Not sure if I missed a step or an ingredient but the dough was pretty sticky and runny.     Love this recipe! Super simple instructions and made in one bowl. Never heard that “size matters” when it comes to baking cookies but, after purchasing my first #40 scoop, I could not agree more.     Delicious! Made them this morning with my toddler. We had loads of fun. We brought them to some of the ladies at my office and were an instant hit. My oven took 11 minutes, middle rack, but I use silicon baking mats so that might have made a slight difference.

    These are delicious. I used half wheat flour and half AP flour. I also lined cookie sheets and sprayed with cooking spray. Oddly enough approximately 9 mins is what it took if I went to 10 mins they burned. At 9 mins took them out let them rest for a min then racks to cool.

    I love these cookies and have made them several times with no problems… however, the last two times I have made them, they spread out on the pan too much.     Quick, easy, DELICIOUS! I always double. I often used dark chocolate chips, and when using chocolate chips, I add a couple of tbsp. of espresso powder. I have also substituted 20% (1 cup for my doubled recipe; 1/2 cup as written) oat, almond, hazelnut, or pecan flour. I’ve tried other extracts, and other flavor chips (butterscotch, peanut butter, Andes Candies Crumbles) with excellent results. Toasted macadamia nuts and coconut, with dark chocolate chips are my FAVORITE! This has become my go-to cookie base!

    These were really good cookies, the only thing is, I didn’t think they tasted like chocolate chip cookies. The only thing we did different was we used milk chocolate chips instead of semi-sweet. the cookies tasted like chocolate chip toffee cookies for some reason. They also turned out very flat, but they were chewy! They are really tasty and we will likely make them again, they just don’t taste like traditional chocolate chip cookies.

    1. Umm, maybe if you used semi-sweet chocolate chips like the recipe calls for, you’d come out with the “traditional” chocolate cookie flavor you’re looking for!? Funny how following the recipe really can make all the difference in the outcome. Who’da think it?

    I’m not much of a baker and I definitely can’t cook, so I think it says something that I’ve made these 3 times now and always get great reactions! I shared my latest batch with a cookie enthusiast friend who said it was in his top 3 best chocolate chip cookies 🙂
    I think the trick is not letting the thickness of the dough discourage you from adding all the flour at the end. These always turn out thick and fluffy and chewy, and I think it’s the flour. At the end of it, after the two cups of flour, it gets really thick and it almost seems like you can skip the last half cup, but I’d just trust the recipe because they turn out great every time.
    I add maybe 1/3 of the chocolate chips it asks for though! And I’m pretty sure I make my cookies bigger than it suggests, so my cooking times vary a bit.

  68. I made these. The taste and texture us awesome but how i do stop them from sticking to the pan. Where i have to destroy them just to get them out the pan.

    1. Oh wow! I’m surprised. My cookies always slide right off the cookie sheet because there is so much butter in them. 🙂 But, if you’re having a problem with cookies sticking to your cookie sheets, line the cookie sheets with parchment paper before you add your cookie dough.

      1. The best way to remove cookies is to let them cool a couple minutes then they can easily be removed without sticking.

    2. You can use oil spray, I always use it even on non sticking cookie sheet. Or spread some cooking oil then dust it with some flour, remove them with your hand not with water.

  69. Could you use dark brown sugar rather than running to the store that’s what I’ve got?

    1. Yes. Dark brown sugar would be a good substitute for the light brown sugar in this recipe. You will still end up with a nice soft chewy center with a slightly crisp edge.
