This unique Cherry Blueberry Chia Smoothie is made with frozen fruit, coconut water, and chia seeds. It’s a great healthy recipe for breakfast, snack, or even a light lunch!
Did you know that there are two very different types of blueberries? There are the regular cultivated blueberries that most of us are familiar with. And, there are wild blueberries.
Wild blueberries are smaller with a more intense sweet and tart flavor. They can be found in the freezer section of most grocery stores with the words “Wild Blueberries” on the package.
I used wild blueberries in this recipe, but traditional frozen blueberries would work too.
The natural sweet/tart flavors of blueberries and cherries are combined in this smoothie. It’s a little different because coconut water is used as the smoothie liquid. The coconut water adds naturally occurring electrolytes, minerals, and a nice subtle flavor. There are also chia seeds blended into this smoothie. The seeds act as a natural thickener and provide some omega-3 fats, fiber, and protein.
